  1. Definitively, Kenny Burrell (Grant Green leads the poll: BNers rule!)
  2. Django or Charlie? DJANGO, only because he recorded much more!
  3. I took BIX, but could have taken Bubber, or Roy, or Rex...
  4. Beware of all related to Planet Music! I used to purchase CDs through their on-line store (and everytime I was to Barcelona) without any problem: good prices, quick delivery. But just before they closed (of course I didn´t know anything about this matter), I made a big order. My CDs never reached my mailbox, but my money was gone (debited in my credit card). Of course, their site was gone, no replies to my e-mails, and no contact telephone! I´m arguing with my bank and VISA; and I will demand Planet Jazz (or whatever they´re called now) to the Office of the Consumer! So, beware of all related to Planet Music!
  5. I totally agree with Dmitry. Try with these Contemporary records:

  12. Adam´s apple: a total masterpiece, because both the playing and the compositions
  13. Though I tend to prefer Mingus´ smaller ensembles work, and though this recording is sort of "greatest hits revisited" (only one real new composition, "Celia"), this band sounds with total perfection and arrangements and new vissions of earlier Mingus´ themes are superb!!! I like Mingus´ bass sound, which you can hear in the front-line like never before! It´s in my top-ten Mingus recordings (don´t know now if in my top-five) This album of the week thread is a very good idea!
  14. If we allow singers.....here they come Ella and Sarah A few more: -Marilyn Crispell -Jane Ira Bloom -Alice Coltrane -Toshiko Akiyoshi
  15. Listening for today: -Kenny Dorham and the Jazz Prophets, vol.1 -Coleman Hawkins: Sirius -Anita Oday swings Cole Porter with Billy May
  16. Does "Tenor madness" fit in this category? It´s in my top-20 from all times!
  17. My favourite recordings as a leader: -The eminent, vol.1 and 2 (Blue Note) -Pinnacles (Milestone/OJC) -all his dates with Kai Winding -At the Opera House (with Stan Getz) (Verve) Outstanding discs as a sideman coming to my mind now: -Birth of the cool & Blue note vol1&2 (Miles Davis) -Hawk flies high (Coleman Hawkins) -Alfie (Sonny Rollins) -The Cape Verdean blues (Horace Silver) ...
  18. Must recognize I haven´t heard some of those pearls: I promise I won´t "procrastinate" picking them... so I vote for "Procrastinator"
  19. Wonderful recording! From his work with Dolphy, I´d add the two Prestige volumes "At the Five Spot" (1961) and "Memorial album" (1961). He was included in Coltrane´s Africa/Brass sessions too!
  20. For an intricate ride on CT´s music, try "It´s in the brewing luminous" (Hatology, 1980). It will take more than one listening...
