  1. It looks like a vocal album... is that right? Not sure. MG
  2. Many belated thanks Bev. I just downloaded 'L'orchestre du Roi Soleil from Amazon, as Alia Vox don't do downloads. Of course, no sleeve notes from Amazon. MG
  3. Strange no one put down Willis Jackson - Star bag - Prestige - 1968 or James Brown - Grits & soul - Smash - 1964 or Illinois Jacquet - The soul explosion - Prestige - 1969 and Illinois HAS to have two in there Illinois Jacquet - Go power - Cadet - 1966 MG
  4. I played the Japanese CD this morning, funnily enough. But I agree with you. For me, 'Soul ballads' is the best. But 'Otis blue' has the best sleeve. MG
  5. I didn't know that. Though really, I was asking Bev, who I know DOES do downloads MG
  6. New Kids on the Block Martin Block Rene Bloch
  7. I take it MDT, Crochet and Presto are classical music download sites. Do they all provide sleeve notes? Could you post links, please, as I've never heard of these firms? MG MDT, Crotchet and Presto Classical are CD stores that can easily be found on the internet: http://www.mdt.co.uk/ http://www.crotchet.co.uk/ http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/ Europadisc and Classics Direct are also recommended; their prices are often a bit lower: http://europadisc.co.uk/ http://www.classicsdirect.co.uk/ In many cases Amazon U.K. or third-party sellers on Amazon are cheaper than all of those: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ Thank you, but which ones can I rely on to include sleeve notes like Hyperion do? MG What do you mean? As I said they sell CDs, including sleeve notes on the inserts where available. Sorry, I'm not buying much in the way of CDs now, because I'm almost out of space; just downloads. I thought I asked which firms did downloads and which of those gave you sleeve notes. I may have phrased it badly, though. MG

  12. Ah! Then it's track two from this. Ah, one I have already MG
  13. Junior Parker - Like it is - Mercury (UK) With the Willie Mitchell band, inc Fred Ford. MG
  14. Can we have a few more French recommendations, please? MG
  15. Yes, except for the title track, where Curtis Lundy is on bass, and two other tracks which are Idris alone. MG
  16. Most of that Winley stuff is pretty crappy. The good ones (very good) are 'Mellow blues' and 'Funky reggae'. The title track of 'Mellow blues' was used as the track for the Harlem Underground Band's 'Fed up'. I think something from 'Funky reggae' was also used on that album, but I've never had the patience to check The sleeve of 'Funky reggae' lists the following personnel: Willis Jackson George Benson & Sterling McGee (g) Dave 'Baby' Cortez (org), Reuben WIlson (on 'Reggae holiday') (org) Earl Williams (d) Kako (cga) So, I don't know who the pianist is, either 'Mellow blues' lists the same personnel, but without Reuben Wislon. 'Plays around with the hits lists George Stubbs on piano & organ, so maybe it's him on 'Funky reggae'. MG
