  1. There are dozens of Fela sleeves like these MG MG
  2. I haven't looked at Facebook, but one of my grandsons put up a page on his Mum, my daughter, and she's now hooked up with an old school friend she hasn't seen for twenty years. So yes, I suppose for some things, it's fine. MG
  3. These came today They're two volumes of 2 CDs each, issued last year in France by Syllart, under the generic title of 'La belle epoque'. The Laba Sosseh and Gnonnas Pedro albums I got a couple of weeks ago are from the same series. I haven't heard them all, so I can't be sure of what all the tracks are. The REAL prize from the 4 CDs is 'Regard sur le passe - live' This is not the version that Syllart have issued a couple of times before, Syliphone SLP10, but a live version recorded by Ivorien TV of a concert at Abijian University, and issued on Syliphone SLP34. The audience reaction is amazing! There are a number of other things I don't know - some of which come from a Sekou Bembeya Diabate album or two from the eighties, neither of which have been out on CD. Also a suspicion that one track comes from a Cuban album which the band did in 1978. Two to digest. MG
  4. Just got the new turntable set up, thanks to Dave, the plumber. It took even him two hours. I'd have taken two months. So I tested it with John Patton - The way I feel - BN (NYUSA stereo) Bleedin' fantastic. Even Dave was impressed and he's a rock fan. Now on Milt Jackson - Milt Jackson Quartet - Savoy (Oriole Realm) next Lionel Hampton - CHicago jazz concert - Columbia (CBS I heart Jazz) MG
  5. There is more (including multiple mentions of "Ernie Wilkens")...but even better than the liner notes is that my copy was once owned by Daddy Boo, who wrote his name, not once, but twice on the inner cover, same panel as on the liner notes. You want to know who bought Gloria Coleman albums back in the day? Daddy Boo bought Gloria Coleman albums back in the day, that's who. Apparently, Daddy Boo liked all but the first two cuts on Side One well enough to put XXX besides each of the titles, except for "Blue Bossa", which only got a XX/. Daddy Boo, I beg to differ. Even better than all this is the music itself. Damn good album. On that, I think that Al Roberts, Daddy Boo, and myself would all agree. I wondered if you'd heard this when I read what you wrote about "Sweet Missy" a few years ago. Go back and have another go at that one, Jim. MG
  6. Still nothin'. My new deck arrived as scheduled but after a look at the contents and the assembly instructions, I realised I was out of my depth. So I called our plumber Seriously, the plumber is a heavy hifi and vinyl fan (rock only) and spends tens of thousands on hifi equipment. You know we're ALL in the wrong business, don't you? He thinks he'll be able to come round at the weekend and help. Well, he IS a plumber. MG
  7. One does have to keep on one's toes, though. It's not a place to abandon one's decision-making process. MG
  8. AMG is OK if you like popular stuff like jazz, R&B, C&W. But the information on most gospel music is effin' appalling. Even on some of the last couple of decades' worth of the most important singers, groups and choirs. If they're going to spend money, I'd much rather they spent it on improving the information, rather than on a face-lift. MG
  9. It re-charges my jets Seriously, if the biggest decision I have to make on vacation is do I go to town to buy the newspaper...it's been a great day! Don't go on holiday to Africa, then! MG
  10. I thought you had to be dead to be canonised. MG Sloppy edit now corrected. Thanks. I think St Von has a certain ring to it, Chuck. MG
  11. I thought you had to be dead to be canonised. MG
  12. Don't see what's so inappropriate there. Whenever I'm in Snowdonia there are people carrying harps along the side of the road, presumably heading for a rent party in a cottage up the mountain. Double basses, too, no doubt. And in the rain MG
  13. And a big thank you to Ubu, who was listening to this MG
  14. Hey, I've wanted that forever! Did you get it recently? If so, where? MG
  15. Nice one, Q. Is that real, or did you make it up? MG
  16. Been looking for this one, but couldn't remember who it was by MG
