  4. Thanks Shawn. I just looked at the user manual. Will try after dinner. MG
  5. Don't think so - it seems the guy in the striped t-shirt is black, too. Paul Grififn was a pretty nice organist. Sessions with Spoon and Nat Adderley in my collection. Bet that's a nice album. MG
  6. Got my ipod working but it just don't work on .wma And Windows Media player and Real Player don't work on AAC files which I now find is what iTunes creates when you use it to rip from a CD. It seems that the only software-independent format is mp3. I tried converting an AAC album ripped with iTunes to mp3, but the "Efficient wma to mp3 converter" someone gave me didn't like it and crashed. Is there some (free?) software around that enable one to ripp from a CD and create .mp3 files out of it? MG

  8. I used to enjoy Mr A on British TV years ago, but I think that's a bit of an exaggeration MG

  13. Sorry - there's no image on the web for this one - too bleedin' obscure. Lorenzo Holden - Cry of the wounded jukebox - Southland What about that for a title, eh? Holden played tenor sax with Les Hite in the forties and Johnny Otis in the early fifties when Otis was #1 R&B seller in the US. After leaving Otis, he developed the tenor/organ combo on the west coast, with Ernie Freeman. This interesting compilation appears to have everything he recorded as a leader. Some REALLY nice stuff here. MG

  18. I'm sorry to hear this. As Mjzee said, these were notable things for a person to achieve. MG

  20. "Nanfule" by Maa Hawa Kouyate and Soundioulou Cissokho, from the album "Le couple royal de la musique traditionalle" GBR. Long, long out of print. I think my copy is probably a pirate. This track never fails to captivate me; pure melody, exultant, but restrained. MG
  21. Bev was listening to this earlier and I thought... "uhhhh!" MG
  22. Oh, Shawn - your little bunch of instructions worked perfectly! Thanks very much. MG
  23. Looks good. When I get time, I'd like to put "That devilin' tune" on a random shuffle like that. Got my ipod working, but no music on it yet. Had not realised what a huge overhead converting .wma to .mp3 would be. Takes forever. Will use itunes to rip stuff in future. MG
  24. "Springsville" was track 6, not 7 - you got a bit mixed up. I'm glad that Johnny Hodges impressed me I saw a documentary years ago about Irene and Vernon Castle and their creation of the ballroom dancing craze in the US before WW1. James Reese Europe was their musical director. Hearing this, you can understand why this music and dancing swept America. MG
  25. Good to hear that. I'm in, by the way. MG
