  5. Why not have an even LONGER look and reverse your decision - that is one of the best ever Mosaic sets in my opinion. Great box indeed. I skipped the free shipping sale, but I'm sorely tempted to pull the trigger for Farmer/Golson this time. I've decided I'm going to wait for the Hampton box when it comes out later this year. It won't be in a sale but I WANT THAT BOX!!!!!!!! See? MG

  10. Oh Boy, I just came across this ranting by ME from almost 2 years ago. Time haven't changed much EXCEPT I found out what INANIMATE means. It means: "Not endowed with life or spirits." No wonder the Zerostat didn't work. Here I've been waisting my time trying to neutralize the whiskey effect. Oh well, time marches on!! By the way, I still play Artie Shaw records, but I make sure there's no whiskey effect. That way I enjoy Shaw more. Too good for a smilie! Laugh of the day!!!!! MG

  18. That rings a bell with me - an obscure one, however. The Senegalese record industry was completely killed by piracy; by the mid 1980s, every record company had gone bust and shut down. For about ten years, all albums were made as a result of a series of ad hoc, one-off, contracts between the basic participants - bands/managers, studios, tape duplicators, printers, independent producers, and distributors - the competition for business was very intense, costs were driven down very quickly and legitimate product was soon being issued at the same price as pirated albums (approx $1.50 an album). The pirates packed it in. Record companies started setting up again in the mid 1990s. Prices remained the same ($2 - the dollar has been falling ) MG

  20. But for the money and the need not to have too many new records, lest I can't listen to them all enough to satisfy me... MG Well, what if we all pitched in and got it for you as a belated birthday present? The crunch point is that I almost NEVER have, and never want, a backlog of unheard (sufficiently) albums. And I've got 10 CDs snarled up in apostal strike at present. MG
  21. But for the money and the need not to have too many new records, lest I can't listen to them all enough to satisfy me... MG
  22. I suppose, if sales are down, that's not going to look too good to the new owners of EMI, who have a half share in Mosaic. Hence the urgency. MG
  23. Could be... but then there's been so many BN reissues in the past years, and some albums have come out several times within short periods of time, so I guess there's no need. And honestly, not much interest here for more BN Mosaics, either... there's lots of other much more interesting ground for them to cover! Dan Gould and I want a Three Sounds box. MG And I want a whole lot of other stuff, but the main thing now is the survival of Mosaic... I think a Three Sounds box would make a good contribution to that cause. MG
  24. So the death of the major companies will reduce the value of the old masters they own (eg Chess, Imperial, Blue Note, Aladdin, Savoy etc) to the point where it will not be worthwhile pursuing pirates - like the Andorrans. But what, I wonder, would happen to the physical masters in this scenario? MG
