  2. A great sax player !! George Braith-1 | George Braith-2 Keep swinging Durium Yeah, George is a long-time favourite of mine, since the sixties! There are some other of his CDs at CD Baby; one of which I haven't got yet. (SO much music, SO little money!) MG
  3. Postman's been and brought me George Braith's "Bop Rock Blues" and the DHL man's been, and brought me the Onzy Matthews Mosaic Select (Pissed poor pix Mosaic have on their site.) MG
  4. Lee Otis Bass III Joe "Mr Piano" Henderson Sax Mallard
  5. I didn't know that was still available. Where did you get it? MG Second hand, from a member of this board... Oh well.... Ta. MG

  7. Can't see his trouser crease on "Midnight special". Yeah, but Ira Gitler mentions, in the notes to "Chicken shack", that Jimmy lived in "suburban Norristown" (ie he was a suburban slicker, but it doesn't sound so good) and that they (all concerned) wanted photos done on a farm, for the grease. MG

  9. but not with new IE (Version 7) at other work... problem is with old IE, then... sounds like that's the reason, also have 6 and i have it I have v7 - looks like it's a v6 problem, then. MG
  10. Strewth, you need to use dictionary.com and it's helpful links to other online dictionaries. Strewth !!! I've a proper poncy dictionary and it doesn't contain slang expressions. MG

  12. Does this analogy hold? If my favorite spy novel author writes a cookbok - do I have to like, or even read, that? I think it depends on circs. MG
  13. Surely that should be "Strewth!", didn't you read those "Warlord" and "Battle" comics!!!! No. But I just looked it up in the dictionary. Neither spelling is listed Struth! What a lousy dictionary! MG
  14. Well, I thought, "what a good idea". So I pulled the BN discography off the shelf, and there it was, all laid out in black & white: Turrentine, Smith, Bailey tk 2 A subtle one tk 3 When I grow too old to dream tk 5 Why was I born tk 5A Minor chant Kenny Burrell added. Same session tk 7 Messy Bessie &etc Struth! I've had the discography for almost 20 yers and never noticed this! MG
  15. "Page not responding" This is THE Clifford Scott album. His solo on "Just tomorrow" is one of my all time best loved solos. You'll regret being broke one day MG
  16. I grabbed this one this month as well... figured I only spent about $1.50 on it in total. I knew what I was getting into, but damn... So NOT worth the $1.50. There are a couple of decent moments (and I do mean only a couple) that almost make this album worthwhile... not something I can see myself listening to more than once or twice. I love Grant, but this one is strikkly shite! Cheers, Shane You are correct. I heard "Nighttime In The Switching Yard" today. So wan, so pale...not much happening there. Sounds like he was going through a bout of George Benson envy at the time. Our loss. It's one of my favourite GG albums (Though I've got to say that "Switching yard" is less effective than the other tracks.) GG ALWAYS wanted to be as popular as George Benson. If you're looking to find music that is personal self-expression, "Easy" is very much IT from that side of Grant's character. (And the same kind of thing is true for George.) Of course, Grant and George weren't mono-faceted characters; they both had other ways of looking and feeling - in Grant's case, "Matador" and "Nigeria" are possibly the best expressions of that other side. But to say, "Oh well, I'm only interested in one side of the guy's personality" seems to me to miss quite a lot. As Michael Cuscuna said, "Grant Green was a great populariser." MG
  17. Thanks folks for those helpful explanations. It's actually not too different here, at least in terms of football and (to some extent) cricket. TV fees (the big money, of course) are shared; gate receipts are shared - particularly important for small clubs who do well in the FA Cup and may wind up playing a top club; sports complexes are also home to cinemas, and other entertainment facilities. What we don't have over here is the concept of sport franchises and I don't get that. Would someone mind explaining how that works, please? MG
  18. Last thing last night, I was playing Charles Mingus - Ah um - CBS UK Charles Mingus - Mingus dynasty - CBS UK and I went to bed afterwards with the Leroy Vinnegar tune "For Carl Perkins" on my head. Is there some resemblance between that tune and "Put me in that dungeon" that I haven't noticed? MG
  19. There is a reason for that, thanks to the always informative Bob B's extra liner notes, he is actually AWOL. He's not there, Bob reckons that he was just booked somewhere else, as he was a busy man in those days and was late for the session. Burrell is only on half the BACK AT THE CHICKEN SHACK/MIDNIGHT SPECIAL sessions, I never realised this either from the original version or notes, just thought he was quite quiet. Bloody 'ell! I never realised that, either. Oh well, I've got McMasters of both, so I guess, now I know the secret in the sleeve notes, I don't need to buy the RVGs Thanks Guv! MG
  20. I didn't know that was still available. Where did you get it? MG

  23. Those recordings, and many more, were recently issued as a Mosaic Select. Ah! I had the feeling I was missing a Mosaic. Which one is it, Dan? MG You mean the number? I have no idea. But here's a recent discussion: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...216&hl=onzy Everyone who has got it seemed to enjoy it. Yes, after mucho whining about the stingy Mosaic offer, I've ordered this now MG
  24. A few years ago (haven't seen it recently) there was a Rolls Royce in Cardiff with a standard local number of OBO110X And another standard local number is in Carmarthen, West Wales, a Welsh speaking area D10LCH (diolch means "thanks" in Welsh). That's a NICE one! MG
  25. I know this has nothing to do with me, but I can't help being both nosey and ignorant. How can a team move? The notion, over here, that Sussex County Cricket Club could move to Kent is a contradiction in terms. Likewise, Manchester United couldn't move to Newcastle. If a firm can't make a profit out of getting bums on seats in the market where they're located, and flogging fan stuff more widely, then like any other firm, they just have to close. That happens. MG
