  1. I haven't played these for a while. Good time to dig them out. Really accessible music. Wonderful announcements from Pee Wee. I love Blakey's intro where he says, "when these get too old, I'll get me some younger ones". (Or is that Cafe Bohemia?) Out of the racks for listening tomorrow. MG
  2. Four emus Shiraz 2004. Strine wine. Quate nace, but I had to have a cuppa after the ice cream. MG

  4. I am REALLY DISAPPOINTED that he didn't have a Jag. Perhaps he just fantasised having a Jag. Thanks for sharing that with us, Allan. Just think of Reid knocking "Shoutin'" out in half an hour... Wonderful. Did they give him a tape or test, so he could hear what type of music he was covering? MG

  9. I was looking on AMG earlier to check if Sonny Stitt's "My mother's eyes" had been issued on Cd and happened to notice that Etta Jones' album of the same name was available on CD. This was originally issued on Muse. AMG said it was out on Savoy Jazz, so I went onto the Savoy Jazz site. There's nowt there! According to CDUniverse, which has the album for sale (next order for me), it was reissued in 2003. When you look at the Savoy Jazz catalogue, it's dated 2002! If you do a search for Jones, you get loads of Joneses but not Etta. If you do a search for Vijay Iyer, you get nothing! (Not that I'm interested but you'd have thought that you could have turned up one of his albums on a search.) Savoy Jazz has all those lovely Muse/Cobblestone albums. And there seems to be no way of finding out which they've reissued, except by accident. Does anybody know a better way of finding out what's available through Savoy Jazz? MG
  10. Hey - it says I've already voted in this poll. OK, but I put my check in against "Easy walker" and no one has voted for that! WTF? MG (I think the sleeve is so elegant and matches the music perfectly. And I love the album! Dunno what my fave BN sleeve of all would be - too many.)

  15. There's nothing as great as a really conservative suit (which I used to wear at work) and a truly outrageous tie! My favourites for work were: Pink Panther playing a sax; a photo of an alto sax; large cartoons of genial pigs; and the HMV dog. No nudes. It really got up the politicians' noses but they couldn't say anything! MG
