  1. That's what I was thinking as well, but the version I know is the one from The Latin Side of..., and it ain't this one. Dan's messing with us again! If it's not Hank, then it's got to be one of the two I mentioned. (I think) (I think I think Therefore I think I exist) MG I was trying to protect Dan's secret when I posted, but for those who are ready to have a look... Track 18 source ssshhh... Well, I wanted it to be that one - but I thought Dan was trying to fool us. Be nice if someone were to issue that on CD. MG
  2. Here are a few more good 'uns from Collectables Junior Mance and DOrothy Ashby ayone? Ronnie Ross & Allan Ganley v Joe Castro with Teddy Edwards, Higgins, Vinnegar and Dizzy coupled with Fathead's "The weapon" MY GOODNESS! MG

  9. The postman brought me a couple of goodies yesterday This completes my Grant Green collection. Actually, while I like the instrumentals fine, most of the vocals feature precisely the kind of singing that I can’t abide. Extreme groovathon. Excellent stuff. Some very interesting songs. MG
  10. James Caan Henry Cain Jack Wilson
  11. Not even if I start smoking? Maybe. Can you blow it out your ears? I've been told to blow it out my ass before. Does that count? Only if it leaves nicotine stains on your pants. MG Those icons of cool. They're a breed apart. I've forgotten what this bit's all about, now... MG
  12. Isn't there something missing from that cover? Don't think so - Hank's got his book of matches in his left hand. MG

  18. They all say "fuck" quite a lot. Dunno whether it's a joke or real. MG
  19. I had his first album and thought some of it was great and some not too great. But he sounded great on Sonny Stitt's "Deuces wild" with Don Patterson & Billy James. Oh yes! RIP. MG
  20. Best bet is to waste their time. I have plenty; they're trying to earn money. It really pisses them off. MG
  21. No, they're with GG's "Live at Club Mozambique" tapes. MG
  22. When I visited Spillers this morning, they had ALREADY SOLD OUT of Johnny Griffin's "The congregation"!!!!! Compared these CDs with the LPs - can't hear any difference. MG
  23. That can't be right. My copy of "Here 'tis" is definitely a JRVJ 24 bit. Here's a scan of the back of the insert to it, and to "Lightfoot" in the next post. You'll see that the whole of the TOCJ9100 - 9251 series were JRVG24s. And they came out between and Jul 1999 and Nov 2000. I think perhaps they didn't sell too well - I picked up a good few in early 2001 (together with a bunch of Universal Victors Soul Jazz series, which also must have been going cheap). I don't know what prices I was paying, but I would never have been able to buy 26 Japanese CDs in such a short period if they were coming in at the usual price of Japanese releases. MG MG, Bluesman and I were talking about the 1500 yen 24-bit remastered non-JRVG Blue Note series, with catalogue numbers TOCJ-6XXX. Toshiba released several batches of these "TOCJ24s" in 2004-2006. Please note that these were remastered by Japanese Toshiba engineers, NOT by RVG! You are referring to the JRVG series, which are totally different. O MG
