Mystery Painting by a famous musician...

Lyle Mays? -
I think, after AfricaBrass moves to Northern California, he's moving to Tucson.

I don't have a movie to recommend. But, your comment made me laugh. It sounds like a comment I would make.

I guarantee, as I type these words, today, that I will NEVER purchase this title.

I was reading the lyrics to the songs on Everything Must Go. One of the lines in 'Blues Beach' says, "We could rent a paranymphic glider..." This might be another example of the Steely play on words. But, what is a paranymphic glider? Whoops! Using Google I found the answer to my own question here.

From AMG: However, during his last year, Cannonball Adderley was revisiting the past a bit and on Phenix he recorded new versions of many of his earlier numbers. But before he could evolve his music any further, Cannonball Adderley died suddenly from a stroke.

I've no experience with bulletin board software from the Administrator's point of view. Are the posts backed up on the server in some manner? I can't remember, is this what happened when the AAJ board crashed? Some posts (or something) were lost? I don't recall the details.

It's humorous, lately, when the FoxNews babe will get the extremely serious look on her face and say, "FoxNews Alert..." Usually, the alert amounts to less than nothing.

I've had moments, since the 9/11 attack, when I will awake at 3:00 in the morning and have a 'feeling' that I should check the news to see if anything has happened while I was asleep.

I used to think I didn't like Bob Cooper. Then I caught myself listening, more and more, to the Shank/Cooper Mosaic Select. Cooper, to me, has a real easy-going and pleasant sound to his tenor. Cooper isn't full of lots of wild playing but he is full of lots of very nice playing, great tone, and smooth style.

The set improves with the Holman and Rosolino material. I've grown to like the Holman/Rosolino tunes very much. I'd buy the set, again if necessary, to add the Holman/Rosolino sets to my jazz collection.

This makes for a total of EIGHT unopened Mosaics from three months ago?

Something I've learned about Mosaic sets is that the fewer sets ordered, the more they are enjoyed. I went through a cycle, over the last several months, of purchasing multiple Mosaic sets at a time, between two and four sets per Mosaic order. I don't know why I felt a need to order more than one set at a time. Ordering more than one set from Mosaic doesn't necessarily save on postage. I learned, when multiple Mosaic sets arrive at my front door, I tear into all of them but appreciate none of them fully. When I receive multiple Mosaic sets in the same package, I listen to a few tracks from this set and that set. I flip through the manuals enjoying the pictures but not reading the words. Yeah, I'll get back to ALL of them at a later time. When I purchase a single Mosaic set I have the time and energy to fully appreciate the set. I listen to most of the music, examine the packaging, and read about the musicians & the recording dates. Being that there is no saving on postage, unless spending more Mosaic money that I want to spend, it would benefit me to make another Mosaic purchase, if a second set is desired, and get the next Mosaic delivered to my front door in the next couple of days. This provides the available time to appreciate a single Mosaic set without interference from other items from Mosaic.

Upon speaking of Bob, an odd sort of fellow, one of my Indiana relatives said, "Yeah, ol' Bob. He's about 10-foot out in the punkin' patch." -
I own every Steely Dan album. Ninety-nine percent of my listening time, these days, is devoted to jazz. Steely Dan is the only popular music band I return to over and over. Walter & Donald are always there when you need them. To my ears, they have not made a 'bad' album. However, they have made certain albums that are better than others. 'Aja' is easily their best. I thought 'Two Against Nature' was very, very good. And, a fantastic 'comeback' album after not making a new studio album for 20 years. With this said, I believe the newer Steely album, 'Everything Must Go,' is superior to 'Two Against Nature.' As much as I enjoyed 'Two Against Nature' when it was first released, since the release of 'Everything Must Go,' I listen to 'Everything' more often that 'Nature.' So, yeah, make sure you purchase 'Everything Must Go.' It's vintage Dan. More depravity, more deception, more hooks and quirky lyrics. The album presents an extremely enjoyable ride on the shady side of life. Things may get a whole lot worse before suddenly falling apart.

This reminds me of album covers such as Queen's News of the World. Which, to me, at the time, looked way too much like C-3PO. It was the Star Wars era, indeed.

It's Labor Day. I'm on my way to a friend's house in an hour. It will be an afternoon of conversing, eating, and drinking. The friend lives within two miles of my residence. As a result, not much time spent on the road during this national day of alcoholic celebration.

Due to various posts on this Board (I can't locate them now), I expected the least from Blue Spirits. Fortunately, I found the recording to be quite good. I don't prefer albums that have mixed musicianship. For example, Blue Spirits contains various tracks with some Henderson, some Mobley, Pete La Roca here, and Elvin Jones there. Another example of this album style is Horace Silver's Song For My Father. On the positive side, however, Blue Spirits contains a VERY good selection of tunes. The mix of musicians demonstrates some VERY impressive playing. When I play Blue Spirits I program my CD player to present the tunes in an order to keep the sets of musicans grouped together. I always have to smile, at the end of the program, when I hear 'True Colors.' What a way to end an album. I listened to Blue Spirits while making a two-hour highway drive in my car. I had to turn the bass down to enjoy the music on the CD. While turning the bass down I had the thought, "Of course I have to turn the bass down, this is an RVG." Yes, the bass is boomy. But, this is an RVG release. To my ears, many of the RVGs have an 'electric' bass sound. As much as I enjoy and anticipate each RVG release, I'd like to see Rudy turn down the 'electric' bass.

Is this why it doesn't sound like Dex?

I believe this is a good discussion of how a CD works. However, I don't believe it discusses how a CD malfuntion might cause distortion. link -
Might want to turn down that volume a tad...

Good reasoning to continue to like jazz played with an acoustic bass. -

Yeah. And, depending on what kind of beer you start with, you may not notice a difference between the 'initial' offering and the 'refill.' Errr... except for the temperature, of course.
