  1. Spot on ...
  2. Honestly can`t match the number of recordings you have - will take a look on the Bercy albums, thnx for the recommendation .... my overall impression with African music was that some of the "edges" btw roughness the music still had in the 80`s somehow got lost in "world music jungle" and so also my interest step by step vanished .....
  3. No pun intended - but not having read one single book of any Nobel Literature winner of the last 45 years just mirrors the fact not being overly interested in literature .... and again, neither want to disturb the Dylan follower`s Nobel Price party - but the idea behind the Nobel Literature price was to put the spot on mainly rather unknown/known to minorities writers who gave it all and to give them a chance both reach a wider audience and (which is often overlooked) grant them economical stability (the price is worth around USD 950 000) .... so we may agree that Bob Dylan`s market share audiencewise hardly can be bettered and he most likely lives in economically sound circumstances .... so this is (IMO) the main reason why the Nobel Literature Price 2016 for Bob Dylan is a missed opportunity ....
  4. !
  5. Vol.1 focuses on the earlier years up to 1967 and is excellent too - my preference for Vol.2 comes down to personal taste (based on song selection) ...... btw this one from the songwriter series is another winner :
  6. This one is (IMO) superb .....
  7. An entertaining read - thnx for sharing .... On a personal note, I believe that Youssou Ndour never was - compared to the magic spread during his live performances (I was lucky enough to witness a couple of these @London in the late 80`s) - adequately documented on record/tape - a destiny he shares with a number of other African artists ....
  8. Paul, I`ve bought this as new release "back then" and of course the expectation reg each new release was sky high - based on the forementioned my inital perception was rather underwhelming - but as you`ve mentioned this result was Ran Blake`s intention and he was lucky enough to have Mr. Bonandrini as producer who was said not to interfere with the artist`s ideas most of the time ....
  9. Even after revisiting this platter I do believe this could also have well worked as Ran Blake - Ricky Ford duo recordings to achieve this or a very similar result .... on the other hand, a stronger bassplayer and drummer most likely would changed or impacted the sessions`s mood/directions. Still this remains for me as one of Ricky Ford`s most important recordings - and although his euvre on Muse is very good too, next to the AOTW platter his solos on Kip Hanrahan`s "Desire Develeops An Edge" are my other treasured Ricky Ford efforts ....
  10. Good to see this platter as one of the top choices ....
  11. Seemingly there was/is a common sentiment that Bob Dylan requiered a publicly awarded accolade - whether today`s step does him in this respect justice is (IMO) highly questionable .... of course longtime Bob Dylan followers possibly will experience this recognition also partially directed to themselves .... btw don`t get me wrong, I dig Bob Dylan and his euvre a lot - but also highly appreciate literature ....
