  1. Neruda - Pablo Larrain (2016) Narrative driven but as poetic, unpredictable and unconventional as it's subject. Very interesting and well made account of political persecution in Chile just after WW2. If you like his other films you'll like this one too. Seems he made it at the same time as he was doing Jackie.
  2. Frank Bruno Seth Brundle
  3. Five Came Back HBO Superb three part documentary. Recommended.
  4. Barry McKenzie Crocodile Dundee Whinging Poms
  5. A Quiet Passion - Terence Davis (2016) Cynthia Nixon gives a stellar performance as Emily Dickinson. Very impressed by the whole film. It has all the usual trademarks of a Davis film plus truly witty and sparkling dialogue, especially in the earlier parts. The ghost of Bergman hangs over the film more heavily as it progresses. This might be his finest all round film and certainly one of the best of the year.
  6. Germaine Greer Clive James Richard Neville
  7. Although I don't think it's the worst film ever made, Tree Of Life and all the director's subsequent films are unwatchable.
  8. Five Easy Pieces - Bob Rafelson (1970) One of the greats. I never tire of this film.
  9. Archie Bell & The Drells William Bell The Chimes
  10. Gypsy Netflix. No minced words, a right load of bollocks.
  11. Has to be the definitive account of the end of the third reich. Very readable and engrossing, never strays into dry academia.
  12. Alone In Berlin - Vincent Perez (2016) Two leads excellent. Convincing recreation of wartime Berlin. Compliments the Ian Kershaw book I'm engrossed in.
  13. Welcome fellow Pacific Region member.
