Great disc for anyone interested in a great inside/outside mid-60's piano trio date. Recommended.

Nope, I did get it done laparoscopically, and I could have gone home the same day - but the surgeon I had said that both he (and the hospital that I was at) prefer to have people stay one night, in case of complications. But you're right, many hospitals do the same procedure I had, where you're in and out in the same day. But I, for one, was VERY glad I stayed the night. I was pretty sore (still am), and it was good to have the hosptal staff checking on me all afternoon and evening, and this morning.

Back from the hospital about an hour ago, sans one gall bladder that was removed yesterday morning. Quite sore in the mid-section, but otherwise recovering nicely. The surgery went well, and all of the hospital staff I encountered (well over a dozen people in barely more than 24 hours) were very professional, helpful, and friendly - without exception. I'll be resting at home all this week, and then back to work on Monday. No heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks, but I'll otherwise be pretty much back to normal within a week or two.

I think "Kiss" refers to the song by that same name by Prince.

Homemade covers for LP's that MIGHT've been on BN

Couw, you are brilliant. Please, more!! Funniest shit I've seen in years. -
I did do some Googling, and the short answer appears to be that the B3 was the most portable, and thus the most popular -- so now they're in the greatest abundance. But still, that doesn't explain everything... Why (presumably) wasn't the B3 subsequently improved upon further? Either by Hammond, or some other manufacturer (which would be another organ entirely). What Hammond organ models (if any) post-date the almighty B3? Any of note? Which reminds me, was Hammond the only game in town? Any contemporaneous competitor(s) of note? In my Googling, I did stumble on this link, which might be helpful: Hammond and Leslie Production Models Questions from an organ neophyte, obviously.

I always enjoy stumbling on this thread, usually when I'm searching for something else. Up, yet again, for old time's sake... -
Basically the "what Classical music are you listening to" thread has become an all purpose "discuss Classical music" thread. Think how much easier it would be to browse through subject matter related to Classical music if there were multiple threads for that material, divided by like subject matter (based entirely on the whim of the starters of those threads). Having a Classical forum (or sub-forum) would help facilitate that. Currently, most of the Classical music discussion is all in one thread, and as such, it's difficult to browse through easily, and almost impossible to to find specific subjects of interest. Granted, there's nothing now that's stopping people from creating separate threads for the discussion of Classical music subject. But for whatever reason, that's not being done much -- and eople just lump everything into that one big honkin' thread. As I suggested above, let's start a Classical sub-forum for a couple months, and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Was recently listening to most of the four(!) volumes of live Woody Shaw material on High Note, plus Stepping Stones (Live at the Village Vanguard), and another other live Woody Shaw date --> "Concert Ensemble at the Berliner Jazztage". And then there's also the Louis Hayes / Woody Shaw quintet and the "Swiss Radio Days Jazz Series, Vol. 5" release. All of these are live recordings of working bands, or in the case of the Berliner Jazztage, a working band augmented with an extra musican or two. I was thinking -- that's a LOT of documented live recordings by WORKING bands of Woody Shaw -- QUITE a lot -- and in most cases, the majority of the material is original to those bands (compositions by Woody, or by other band members, or contemporaneous tunes associated with the "Woody Shaw" book), and not a whole lot of standards either (just a few, here and there). What OTHER artists have quite a lot of LIVE material recorded and released, documenting their WORKING bands -- and that also (partially) document their own band's (and bands') book(s) of tunes?? Miles, obviously. Ellington, obviously. Coltrane, obviously. Who else, that ISN'T as obvious. And, even if somebody doesn't have a deep catalog of leader dates, even two or three live dates might constitute "a lot" of live material, relative to the total number of releases by that artist.

I see that "Yes!" is outpacing the sum total of "No!", "Huh?", and "Not another Poll". Way to go, "Yes!"!!

Then I'll warn my wife that it's gonna be another 7 years or so before I do.
-
Yes, I meant Memorial day, not Labor day. I'm always getting them confused, which bugs my wife to no end.
-
I'm now scheduled to have the thing out the day after Labor day. Which is GREAT, because that means I can still get to St. Louis for my Dad's 80th birthday Labor Day weekend (yeah!!), but still have the surgery early enough that I'll be good to go on a work-related trip the week of June 11th - a trip I'm really looking forward to. So, the scheduling of this surgery could not have been one bit better, and it looks like I've really threaded the needle, in terms of still being able to do all these trips. Whew!!!

Looks like I'll be having my gall bladder taken out sometime next week. Will have to miss the planned trip to St. Louis for my Dad's 80th birthday (Memorial Day weekend), but there wasn't a big party planned -- just dinner with him and my wife. Supposedly I'll be good to go on all the other trips, and my dad will just have to stay 79 until I see him over the July 4th holiday.

One could easily argue both sides of this coin (what next? - a blues forum? - and then a zydeco forum? - and then a...), but I too would really enjoy having a classical music forum (or sub-forum) of some sort around here. I know an ironclad argument for having a classical forum clearly cannot be made -- never the less, I think such a forum would be quite welcome by a number of folks around here. Perhaps put it to a vote? (a poll), and see what folks here think. Or, better yet (I would argue), just do it and see what happens! I propose a test period of 2 months -- where a classical forum (or sub-forum) is created, to see just what kind of conversations would be enabled as a result. Then if Jim doesn't think it was really necessary (or beneficial), then just collapse the newly created topics back into general music, and life goes on. Or keep it, because it turned out to be a good thing to have around here. At least giving it a chance might produce some interesting results.

I'll second that. Welcome back!! -
By the way, if my regular family doc says to have my gall bladder out -- to what extent should I be concerned about getting an independent second opinion?? I haven't had kind of surgery since I was a kid (just typical "ear, nose, and throat" kid stuff). My wife is thinking I should maybe/probably get a second opinion about anything that says surgery is necessary -- just on principle. My regular doctor is pretty good (at least I think so -- though I guess I really don't know for sure). I've had him for 11 or 12 years now. He seems good to me, at least. I'm pretty sure he won't be the surgeon, since he's just a general care practitioner (primarily with older (retirement-age) patients, actually). If I might ask, Beri, did you get a second opinion before going ahead with the surgery??
