Hey, I almost posted that one, too - seems we're all in the same taliban-fan-club... ubu

Ever not check out a thread cuz it's too big???

http://secondeguerre.free.fr/hitler.mp3 edited to add the source: http://www.secondeguerre.net/index2.html - just so that no one has any strange ideas where I found this piece of historical crap... -
I guess my name might indeed be unique - not many folks who've got names in that language (and even less, I think, who are able to speak it - I am not). But then not many links - one to some Blue Note review I posted, one to Mike Fitzgeralds sites, and some University crap. But then I'm still young... And no photo, of course. And that phone number thing does not work - glad about that! ubu

Just in case someone here is looking for the either OOP or soon to go OOP hatOLOGY "Dissonant Characters", a great duo album by Ellery Eskelin and Han Bennink, there's a copy available on jazzmatazz, and for a nice price, too! ubu

Check this one out: A very good one, with Richie Kamuca, Vince Guaraldi, Monty Budwig and Stan Levey. (link) Thanks for posting the Lees text, Barak! I shall read it tonight. ubu

Hold a mirror up to that thought. Exactly. Actually not! If we talk about influences, yes, of course, but if we talk about "hearing" someone in someone - you can hear Brötz in Hawk looking at it (or rather: listening to it) now, with the benefit of knowing Brötz and all the post-Hawk saxophone history. ubu

David, consider this one, too: A GREAT album! Not to buy on Amazon France, though - they want 21 Euros for that one - I guess it would be best to check for this on some US sources. ubu

You're correct, of course. But then this was our way to do it - as not too many people seemed to be willing to start those threads that Chuck mentions (and dozens of others, of course). Then it just turned out we'd stick to it and it grew like mad - others jumped in and out, and as others have said already, are always welcome. -
Got Twins (for €7 or so at Amazon.fr). It is indeed a typical red-black Atlantic Masters digipak reissue made in Germany. The sound is actually quite good - much better than Atlantic Master reissue of Free Jazz, for example. The music is phenomenal. The other one I got is this one: Great stuff! Pretty adventurous playing from everybody. Say what you will, but I hear a lot of Brötzmann in Hawkins' playing. As Chuck said. Listening to Brötz on the recently bought "Three points and a mountain...plus" (FMP, trio with Mengelberg & Bennink), that seems to be very much the case - loads of Hawk in there! Listen to Sonny apeing Hawk on some track (can't remember, don't have my RCA box at hand) is great! And it seems on a few tracks that Hawk, in this surroundings, outgrows himself (if that is possible - or let me say: stylistically transcends his own horizon), while Rollins of (mocking on the surface, but probably deep serious) respect plays all the Hawk he knows (which is tons of, of course). ubu

And hey, someone should rename this thread into "funny rat (recommended)" or anything similar...

Uh, how many volumes of Vintage Duet have been released so far? With which one should I begin my trip?

now who's smelly there, if not our resident cow? don't you dare! you will be banned from our rat asilum! (And I guess sort of an asylum it was when it started, but I think it's great that so many people did jump in at one point or another!) EVERYONE IS WELCOME, INDEED! (except our cow or course ) ubu -
Otto? ubu

Both are great, yes! And don't forget "Water Babies" - if you go the box-set way, get the Quintet 65-68 box as well as the "In A Silent Way" box - half of "Filles" and "Water Babies" is in the first, half in the second one. ubu

start reading catesta. there's some way cool stuff hidden in the deep layers. Any junk food or porn to be found? Depends on how you define junk food or porn

Let us know how you like it. I haven't checked any of Cecil's Leo releases yet. Carlos Ward is one of my favorite alto saxophone players (he also plays some mean flute... and is an excellent composer). He is excellent on two live discs he recorded with Ed Blackwell on Enja, and on duo reocrd with Karl Berger. Check out Ward's playing on some of the discs he made with Abdullah Ibrahim! "South Africa" and "African Marketplace" are two great ones! ubu

I don´t know if it´s still available, brownie. I´m afraid it isn´t, as some amazon and google research doesn´t bring any results. But I could help, if any of you is happy enough with a CD-R of it! Yup, a CD-R would be just fine with me

entering new territory here... Jimmie Lunceford Columbia box, LP1 ubu

As I only have two Paul Bley CDs (this one and a volume of the Bley-Giuffre-Swallow trio), I´m opened to any further recommendations! A further for "Partners" (also on OWL), a good duo set with Gary Peacock. Other than that I don't have much Bley so far. "Sankt Gerold", on ECM, is one of two albums on that label by the trio of Bley, Evan Parker, and Barre Phillips. Here's the cover: I think it's pretty good! Check the "rat" for more, I'm sure it has been discussed there. ubu

Bolling, not Boland. That was a typo, of course. Corrected it above. ubu -_-

uh... I have that disc, and I like it very much - but then I haven't listened to it since right after it came out (I listened to it five or six times just when I got it, but never again since then... I guess I should change this soon). HEY, EKE! Where did you hide Tete? Uh, alright, you considered him too big to just have him on one track, and decided your next BFT will be all Tete and only Tete, right? ubu
