  1. Thanks for sharing these good news, John! I like that one solo Byard CD on Candid a lot! (that one was also not released back in the days, as far as I know) ubu
  2. Yes, I'm a big fan of Friedlander's photos! The ones in the Coltrane and Ornette Atlantic box sets are marvellous! Guess there would be some in the various nice Rhino 2CD Anthologies, too (I did never pick up one of them, as I tend to have more than half of what's included if the artist interests me - Mingus, Eddie Harris come to mind). ubu
  3. Jeeez!!!!!!!!! woowww!!!!!!!!!!, not only she sounds like the real thing, sings with passion and she looks like a real woman!!! and Italian too. Here I go, I'm falling in love again!!! Roberta, Roberta, Roberta.!!!!!
  4. Can you watch swiss tv, Mike? SF2 (or sometimes 3sat) do broadcast Bern Jazzfestival concerts. I do not follow it (have no Video, no DVD-recording facility, and no own tv either, only watching at my girlfriend's), but it might be worth it! I have no idea though if they did broadcast anything from Gamabarini, as the Bern Jazz Festival had to change locations and had a whole new concept last year: the new location is some sort of a club, each artist plays for a whole week, and one of these evenings is recorded by swiss radio, broadcast partially live, and later they broadcast some more, at times the same again, in other cases (as with Gambarini, hence 2 sets around) other material. ubu
  5. Mike, thanks for your interesting comments on Mangelsdorff et.al. "Expectations" is well worth 10 euro-zlotys, no? I think it is a very strong album, all together, and I wouldn't want to miss the tracks with strings, actually. I like it as it is. ubu
  6. And here's some photos of her: inside out images © bruce moore ubu
  7. had no time yet to read further than the first two paragraphs. took it from here ubu
  8. I don't buy the SZ every day and neither check their website daily, but got it today because of the Helmut Newton obituary and saw that article. It's the start of a series. Maybe we can try to watch for them and post them here? I have no idea when the next one is going to be published - and they usually have their stuff available freely only on the day it is published. ubu
  9. Check this one out, too, if you see it cheap (maybe 2001 has it for 10 euros? Or is that deal over?) http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=Afs2gtq8zbu47 ubu
  10. congratulations! I like your CD better and better, by the way! ubu
  11. Here's a rather interesting article from today's Süddeutsche Zeitung about the current situation of the music industry: Source: http://www.sueddeutsche.de/sz/feuilleton/red-artikel1778/ ubu
  12. Mike, were did you buy it? Here they want 38 CHF for Hyena releases (around 25 Euros!!) ubu
  13. I notice this, too. Rather hard to get used to it. But over at AAJ I never was able to type something, then select it, click the bold-button. Always had to click B, then enter text in special opening window. That's even more of a pain. ubu
  14. That cover is GREAT! One to get the LP, frame it and put it on the wall, in my opinion! ubu
  15. So everybody who has not yet picked up this puppy, GET IN LINE! Still highly recommended! ubu
  16. Today's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has a photo-novel by Newton - they claim it to be his last work. Pretty unessential, methinks. Have no scanner. But I think you should be able to get the international edition of FAZ in the states. ubu
  17. Hey! I'm just TRYIN' HARD, and I mean REALLY HARD to learn something about a subject I hardly know ANYTHING about... ubu
  18. Could not find the Atlantic CD-cover on the net. But this seems the only way to get it these days, anyway. ubu
  19. Tony, in my humble opinion the Nichols is worth much more than 36 bucks! Please keep us posted when you have listened! And if you like it, start hunting Nichols' last album, on Bethlehem, "Love, Gloom, Cash, Love", with Dannie Richmond and George Duvivier. If you're lucky you can still find the 2000 (or was it 1999?) reissue done by Avenue Jazz/Rhino. ubu
  20. By the way, that they wrote "when we reordered the set" explains a further question: they do seem to only have a certain amount of sets available, and once they're sold, they order more. ubu
  21. Mystery solved - just got mail from Mosaic: And regarding the Atlantic New Orleans there are 200 around of that. ubu
  22. What's that? Anyway, I work with what seems to be called a "scroll point" instead of a mouse (IBM Thinkpad) - so no mouse features for me, I'm afraid. ubu
  23. This board brings bits of paradise to earth like no other place .... feel free to remind me if heaven don't come by itself... ubu
  24. Interesting comments, Larry! I will keep them in mind when I pick the CD out of my shelf the next time. What you say about Roach is very true! Forgive me the sacrilegeous comparison, but what Roach plays is like 40 minutes constant "Un poco loco"... terrific (as he always is)! ubu
