  1. Allright thanks guys both of those series are helpful. I will pick up some of hose separate releases. Have to check out what’s the best way to obtain most tracks.

Japanese LPs are definitely attractive to buy. As a matter of fact: Japanese sellers are almost the only ones that sell vinyl on Discogs for reasonable prices. Maybe because the vinyl hype isn’t that big over there. And for me Japanese vinyl is like Japanese cars: high in quality and very reliable.

  2. Is there a LP or LP set compiling Birds small group stuff on Verve excluding the bigband/latin/strings stuff. I already have the complete master takes on cd but would like to have the small group stuff on vinyl as well. His discography is so overcrowded with all sorts of compilations I haven’t managed to find what I am looking for. Maybe you guys could help me or maybe I am looking for something that does not exist.

I agree.  Whenever I listen to it, I'm surprised (again) that BN didn't want to issue it.

    Next up:

Dollar Brand / Abdullah Ibrahim - Tintinyana (Kaz UK, 2 LPs)
The third volume in "The African Recordings" series

I brought this home from a record store in Madrid last summer.  :)

These are all great and would make one hell of a Mosaic.

Nobody else's ears are as good as your own.

On the other hand, it's fun & healthy to challenge your ears to hear new things.  Movement, growth, and all that.

    A bit of a contradiction!

Agreed 100%. I’ve learned to like a lot of music by keep playing it. Sometimes you just never reach that point where it works out for you, but a lot of times you do. My shelves are full with music by artists I did not really appreciate at first. Among them are Horace Tapscott, Jackie McLean, Sam Rivers and Wayne Shorter. I wouldn’t want to live without them now!

Everytime you, and possibly @Pim, post that I think I must get a copy, so thinking that again now

It’s been a while I spun that record but remember that I was slightly disappointed and expected more from this line up. I had trouble with the vocals. Perhaps I should revisit it and give it another try.

How does the Book of Angels work? Do the artists pick the tunes from the 300 second book compositions and then decide how to play them? Or does Zorn pick them and/or do the arrangements to some extent?

No idea to be honest. I like some of those: the Uri Caine, the Masada String Trio, the Erik Friedlander, the Bar Kokhba, the Mark Feldman and the Craig Taborn.

For me Zorn is putting out way too many records. Its really quantity above quality. I really like some of his projects but it's pretty hard to find them as I don't feel listening to all of the stuff that he puts out.

such a powerful live date this is. Clifford Jordan at his best.

Speaking about Clifford Jordan: I’ve ordered the new P-Vine/Groove Diggers release of In The World in December 2022. It was supposed to be released in march but got postponed to September. It’s almost October now and still no sign of it. Anyone else here with that in pre order?
