organissimo will be at the 2006 Detroit International Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 3, 2006. I don't have a specific time, but we'll be going on right before the headliner on the Waterfront Stage. I believe the headliner is the Jaco Pastorius Tribute Big Band. Root Doctor will also be at the festival on Saturday, September 2nd, opening for James Cotton and Taj Mahal. With organissimo in Chicago, and both bands in Detroit that weekend, it'll be a busy couple of days! Woo hoo!

organissimo will be performing at the 2006 Chicago Jazz Festival on September 1, 2006 at 2:20pm on the "Jazz on Jackson" stage. This is one we've been after for years, so we're very proud of this gig! It looks like Chicago digs us!

Since it's April, I can finally announce that we will be appearing at the Syracuse Jazz Festival in Syracuse, New York, on the campus of Onondaga Community College on Friday, June 23rd. We'll be on the main stage at around 6:00pm. Supposedly there is a big ad in the May edition of JazzTimes with our name up with the other performers (Funk Brothers, David "Fathead" Newman, etc.) I haven't seen it yet, but people have called me about it. Pretty cool! Anyway, I hope some of our members in the area can come out and hang!

Jimmy Smith: playing Coltrane before Coltrane

The only organist I really listen to is Larry Young. Sorry to Jim, and everybody else! Don't apologize to me. I feel sorry for you! You're really missing out on some great music! Just off the top of my head (and keeping it to "newer" organists in the non-Jimmy Smith mold): Larry Goldings - One of the few people who's releases I buy the instant they come out. He always makes interesting records with great originals that warrant repeated listenings. And he really uses the drawbars on the organ to coax different and unique sounds. Sam Yahel - His work in his own trio and with Joshua Redman in Yaya3 is fantastic. Another organist who is not afraid to push the boundaries, experiment with different sounds, and separate himself from the Jimmy Smith club. Dan Wall - A truly original voice on the instrument. Check out his work with tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi. Medeski, Martin, & Wood - People dismiss them as a "jamband" or novelty, but they aren't listening. Medeski is one of the most influential keyboardists on the planet right now. Jared Gold - He has not recorded much, but there is a really great record on the label that organissimo used to be on, PKO Records, with guitarist Randy Napoleon, which is very very nice. Joe Bagg - A member of Anthony Wilson's trio... again, not too many recordings, but his playing is very cliche-free. and of course... organissimo - C'mon... you gotta buy at least one of our records!! -
UP because this is tonight! Wish I could be there, brother! Good luck and have fun!

Ahhhhhhh! Thank you! Does anyone know what that video is from?

Didn't we see that guy at the Skybar, Joe?

Ok, so that's Kenny Burrell on the end... who's in the middle? Is that Pass?

Uhh... technoduffery on the mp3 player front...

I just use the "save track" function in Nero and it automatically looks for the CD information (title, artist, track names) and encodes them into the resulting mp3s. Pretty simple. -
greedy ass ebay

Or just have a slightly higher reserve to offset the fees. And yes, asking the seller to add an additional 3% to cover Paypal fees has not been allowed for quite some time. I don't see what the big problem is: Paypal is providing you with a service that you could not do on your own (ie, the ability to get cash instantly from various sources including credit cards) and charging a nominal fee for the service. Trying to pass that cost onto the consumer after a price for the item has already been established has always been a little shady to me. Before eBay outlawed this type of behaviour, I would not buy from sellers who tried to pull that. -
Damn. Coming from you, Mike, this is very high praise. I'll have to check this one out, for sure.

No, I would need to add an affiliate link up there for "Amazon.uk". I can if y'all want me to. -
The obligatory CDUniverse link: Cassandra Wilson - Thunderbird (click to buy)

So nobody has one? I'm kinda surprised. I have no problem leaving my office machine on all the time, since that's what I do anyway (I have three computers). They are also making a radio with built-in speakers, which would be cool for our new kitchen!

For those that don't know, the hosting company was experience power outages. Hopefully it is all repaired now, but don't be surprised if things "black out" again.

UP, because I'm thinking of getting one of these for myself for my birthday next month. All the reviews I've read have been positive. Does anyone here have one?

I don't know what's more ridiculous, the decision or some of the comments on the message board.

what the f*ck happened to popular black music?

Rap has been around almost 30 years, folks. Blaming it for the ills of society is a cop out. -

Yes, this was a new script that the programmer sent that was supposed to make CDUniverse first, but it just added a blank space. I'm leaving it up so he can see it and hopefully debug it. And yes, I think if you order books through Amazon, we still get credit, as long as you get Amazon from here (by using the search bar above). That doesn't mean you have to search books from here... it's as simple as typing something into the search box, hitting the little arrow, and then a new window pops open for Amazon.com. Once you're in that new window, any order you place for anything, we get a percentage. Neat, eh? -

In anticipation of our kitchen remodel being done (some day... some day...) I bought her this: http://www.kitchenaid.com/ The stainless steel version. Yesterday we bought some very nice new appliances for the kitchen (LG side-by-side refridgerator and matching dishwasher... to be delivered in June... hopefully I'll have everything done by then) so she's very excited! She's in our sub-kitchen using the new food processor now! -
well, then you should change that. www.wdcb.org This should be a good time for WDCB to grab new listeners and I hope you guys take advantage of that and are successful!
