  1. No excuse, Guy. We'll be at the Tutti Frutti (Frutti de Mare) around 5pm!
  2. That looks good, too. I like Italian. I don't know what Randy is up to today. He'll be into whatever, I'm sure.
  3. I'm up for whatever... however, for lunch, I need to hit Mustache again in the village. My wife and I had dinner there the last time we were in NYC and it was the best medditerranean food I've ever eaten. The hummus was unbelievable. Sushi is fine with me. What I would like to do is get the van out of parking (hopefully our stuff is still in it) around 7pm (or a little later) and find parking on the street for it (hopefully) close to the club. Right now it's at Edison Park FAST on 44th and 6th. It would be nice to find a space in front of the club to leave it so we can load-in easy come 9pm.
  4. Yeah, typing on a cell sucks. We're in NYC now and I'm staying at a friend's with a REAL computer and internet access! Woohoo!!! We got into NYC at about 5:30pm and it took another hour and a half to find a lot that would accept our big-ass cargo van (what a drag that was). But we made it, that's what counts. Randy is staying in the village with an old friend. Tonight we went to an amazing Turkish restaurant, complete with a live belly-dancer (who tried to get me to dance with her... I'm not shy of the stage, but dancin' ain't my thing, honey... sorry) and then went to see Dave Stryker and Steve Slagel (with Victor Lewis on drums) at the Jazz Standard. Great show! We're looking forward to hanging out tomorrow and doing the hit tomorrow night! Should be a great time!
  5. What's up with that? ← Well, I'm not sure if I should say he won't let me, but isn't it an IP address thing? I really don't know. I guess I probably could, but instead I spend most of my time just watching you all and listening to Jim talk about everything on the Board all the time, I hardly need to post. As for trying to get the guys to Philly, I am all for it! I'm glad to see the City's picking back up again. And by the way Ron S, I worked at the Banana Republic on Walnut & 18th. AA
  6. Alison here again...I have to use Jim's account since he won't let me have my own... Anyhow, I lived in Philly for 2 1/2 years. At 18 I graduated high school in mid-Michigan and decided to live in Center City Philadelphia to attend art school. I had never been there in my life. I lived alone on 13th St between Pine and Spruce and walked everywhere! I worked downtown off Rittenhouse Sq., went to South St., The Reading Terminal, the Museum, movies, dinner, you name it. I was also scared out of my mind the minute I was out alone after dark and walked around with a dagger-like safety pin in my hand at all times. Every college friend I had who lived in the City was mugged except me. But, I also have to say that I loved that town so much and think of it constantly. The food, the music, the architecture, the shopping, and events can keep a person perfectly happy. The homeless population, back when I lived there (91-94), was out of control. I was aware when a certain person was missing off the street after a couple long hard winter weeks. The faces became so familiar...almost like store owners'. The panhandling then was take-it-or-leave-it. It never seemed to bother me. Until the day when I decided to give a person my leftovers from my dinner out with friends on the way home. The man, whose sign read that he was starving I might add, threw my food on the ground when I offered it. I've been scarred ever since. I recommend everyone visit Philly at least once. It is beautiful and fun. I was there when they were making the movie Philadelphia and my neighbor was an actor in it and I still feel a deep connection to the town. I hope to return someday. If the trio plays there, I will go! Thanks for letting me chime in when Jimmy's not around

  10. Can anyone answer this? ← Sorry. It's "Smokin' Section". ← This is Alison... (B-3er's wife) I realize I am way late to respond to this, but I have to state my case! I don't hate Smokin' Section. You must realize the guys rehearse here and I heard that tune in pieces over and over and over again. It took some time for me to know what it was to become. It still isn't my favorite track, but I did get a big chuckle when the beauty shop asked them to turn it down on that one. The band thought it was a female thing! To say the least I am incredibly proud of my three men. This project has been very exciting through and through. The music is amazing and the fans are inspirational. I am so proud of them on this tour right now. The house is so empty when the B3 isn't humming. AA
  11. I think its pretty indicative of the atmosphere that surrounds the major or long standing jazz labels these days. We couldn't get anyone to even listen to our disc and look what happened... it was in the CMJ Top 10 for four weeks! It did better overall than a lot of the major label issues as far as radio play. Not to say that's the end-all-be-all, but I think it says something.
  12. Before the advent of multi-tracking, meaning recording separate tracks at the same time which can then be mixed AFTER the session, most engineers mixed on the fly straight to mono and/or stereo. There was very little one could do after the fact. Christiern is right that all recordings have been "mastered" in a sense before being released. For something to be released on the standard 33 1/3RMP LP, for instance, you have to apply RIAA EQ standards to the final master tape before pressing to vinyl and probably some limiting and compression as well.
  13. I'm gonna buy it!!! http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/billstewarttrio Does anyone have this yet? I love his Blue Note records... he has a very unique sense of composition that I enjoy.
  14. I'm sure he can't be any worse than the rest of our fans...
  15. Mark, it will be great to finally meet you in person!!!
  16. All right, post-lawyer-boy... cool it. But seriously, Greg is working on getting us a jaunt through Philly before or after the DC gig in Nov. I'm sure it'll work out.
  17. Believe it or not, but regular ol' WD40 takes off glue residue.
  18. What is the heart of jazz? improvisation What are five words to describe jazz? The search for your voice Would you prefer an intimate venue or one that is more open and grand? both are fun and have their pros and cons If you are a performer, how do you like your audience to be around you? everywhere but behind Do you prefer an elevated platform or a flat surface for entertaining? elevated What kinds of things would make you not want to go to a certain place to see jazz? $6 beers and a two drink minimum on top of paying a $20 door charge What are the top five things you think should be covered in a jazz museum? Jazz doesn't belong in a museum. But that's what college jazz programs are for. (zing!) What colors to you think embody the world of jazz? All of them! Do you see jazz in black and white or in color? COLOR! If you could relate jazz to an architectural style, which style would it be? I don't know enough about architecture to answer this. What would make you feel comfortable in an instrumental classroom setting? A decent stage to perform on... nothing fancy... but raised a bit.
  19. My wife and I are right in the middle of a kitchen remodel, so we're using the kitchen in the upstairs of our house (the upstairs was used as an apartment). All of our non-essentials are just on the floor, in the living room of the apartment. Zora likes to play with the cans and any bottles (spices, soy sauce, etc.) and she stacks them in little towers. I knocked one over!!! She'll be mad at me tomorrow for ruining her city-scape.
  20. It's kind of a spur of the moment thing, but I'm going to be talking to Mike Stratton on WLNZ's program "The Vinyl Side of Midnight" in about 15 minutes. You can listen live at: http://www.lcc.edu/wlnz/ Look in the upper left corner. : )
  21. "This Is The Place" reviewed on All Music.com by Scott Yanow. organissimo on All Music
  22. "Kopa", I don't mind you pedalling your wares here, but please don't make a bunch of different threads for different CDs. Just put them here, eh? I merged your three separate threads together into this one. Thanks.
  23. How far is Pittsburgh from Philly?
  24. Nah, it's cool Larry. I sent it. And I'll send one to anyone else who is having a problem. If anyone knows of another member who cannot get on due to the incompatabilities between the new board software and Mac OS 9.x (featuring Internet Explorer 5.x) then by all means, let me know. Glad to have you back, Larry.
  25. I agree, Saint Vitus. MSU also made too many dumb mistakes. But overall it was a great game. Would've been better had they come out with a win, but that's the way it goes. So, SS1... what do I have to put in my sig?
