Yeah, this has totally slipped my mind. We had every intention of recording a Christmas tunes at Glenn Brown Productions (where the last two CDs were recorded) as part of the "This Is The Place" sessions, but we just didn't do it. We need some ideas for this year for tunes to do. What do you think? I can definitely record them at my house (where we did "Christmas Time Is Here" last year).

Since I've had a kid, it is very hard for me to find the time to practice. I've been trying to get more sleep at night, so I can practice while she's sleeping during the day, rather than taking naps. But it is hard, especially getting up at 6:30am or 7am after gigging the previous night (and not getting to bed until 4am!) One thing that has suffered for me is writing... I just don't have time to do it and when I do, I too tired to think of anything cool.

Ok, the poor guy... I mean really, that's horrible... but man... I have to admit I laughed out loud at that. Probably because I have been shocked many times by touching a microphone to my lips and then touching something metal on the organ. YOUCH! Now I use those little foam mic condoms ALL THE TIME. I'm guessing the sound system wasn't grounded.

There's not much to do in NYC.

Gee, it's just a wee bit better looking than this monstrosity in my city: Seriously, who would be inspired to go there? Yay, another ugly, boxy, metal-roofed chunk of ugly for a church. You should see the inside, too.

I listened to a bunch of the stuff last night. The sound is good... very "live". There is some overloading of the preamps on the first tune. We really didn't have time for an adequate sound check (ahem) but we've played "Theme From The Big O" better anyway, so no loss there. Overall, there are some fine moments for sure, but I'm going to let the stuff sit for a week or two and then come back to it. I'm a little too close to it right now and a little too critical.

I am just about to go start listening to some of the stuff and see where we are. Keep in mind we were recording to two mediums for redundancy purposes, so between the two there should be good, quality, non-distorting stuff (I would hope). A highlight of the evening for me was meeting David Ruffin's widow, daughter, and grandson!!! DAVID RUFFIN! How cool is Detroit?

I'm glad Von did well in Philly. I am happily eating my words that it would be an empty (or lonely) house! Great news!

I had a great time last night! Getting the equipment set-up was a bit stressful, but I tried to let that roll off and just play! The crowd was definitely into it and really helped propel us, I think. Thank you, Paul, for bringing friends out and being so enthusiastic. It is sometimes easy to forget how a good audience is 1/3 of the equation. Gotta run, but I'll write more later.

I just spent $260 on three new, high quality replacement storm windows (custom made... our windows in this old house are 5 feet tall) for the north side of the house. I'm hoping that the investment will pay off this winter. I'm also going to insulate the space between the concrete brick foundation and the start of the wood in the basement, as I've read that can make a big difference. I also have to figure out something with my front door. Last year, for the coldest month (probably February), our heating bill was $200 for that month. I've heard figures that it can go up anywhere from 40-75%. So it's time to get this old girl weatherized as much as possible.
