  5. Folks, I thought when we first opened up the "Offering/Looking For" forum, we agreed to not deal in CDRs and such. Lately, there has been a lot of instances of people actively seeking and/or providing CDRs of material for other members. While I really am not interested in getting into a debate of the pros and cons of such behavior, I do know that it can only lead to trouble for this board. With that in mind, can we please refrain from offering or soliciting CD-Rs from fellow board members out in the open? If you want to offer someone a copy of something to be nice, please do so via private email or personal messages. If you receive a copy of something from someone, please don't go boasting about it in the public forums. And finally, if you are looking for a copy of something, be a little more discrete. For instance, instead of just coming out and saying, "YO, CAN SOMEONE BURN ME A COPY OF _______________?" how about something like, "Hey, I'm looking for ___________ but I'm having trouble finding it. Can someone help me out?" Does this seem unreasonable? I just think with the massive amounts of traffic that this board is getting, we are inviting trouble if we get complacent on this. Again, I have no interest in arguing for or against the practice, I just know it exists and I don't want to get my ass sued. Ok? From here on out, any post that I see that is actively offering / soliciting CDRs, even of out of print material, I will delete. Thanks.
  6. I like his brother, Hugh Jass. He's a nice guy.
  7. Tain't gonna happen, my friend! Sure, it'll be Pistons vs. Heat for the Eastern Conference Championship, but the Pistons will beat them in 6.
  8. Great, Clinton! I saw that in the breakdown of my last check from CDBaby that someone bought the record via iTunes! I guess that was you! Very cool! Remember, if you wanna signed copy of the real thing, you can get one here...
  9. These forums officially opened on March 6, 2003. So we're a few days away.
  10. The UAD-1 EMT plate plugin is pretty sweet. So are the plates on the aforementioned Waves IR-1. The local studio just got a real EMT plate from Muscle Shoals along with the Neve console that we'll be doing our next record on.... hopefully to tape.
  11. I play a real one. Everyone here knows how I feel about the digital ones! Digital sucks. But let me quantify that statement: Digital, when trying to emulate something that already exists in the real world, like a piano or a string section, is not very good (although getting better every day). However, there are things that digital can do that sound good and are useful. Digital reverbs sound very nice these days (the new Waves IR1 Convolution Reverb is pretty damn amazing), for one example.
  12. Ok, whatever. I'm done. I don't agree with what you're saying anyway... but it's hard to agree or disagree with someone when you don't even understand what they're saying. I just listen to the music. If it sounds good, I like it. I don't worry about what pedal the guitarist is or isn't using or if his amp has tubes in it.
  13. Allen, I was using your exact words and phrases!!! Except for the "tubes = organic" part (which you agreed with in your last post), you used those same exact words in your posts! So how is it me making the judgement and not you!?? I didn't say those things!
  14. Ouch. You still watching, ss1?
  15. I guess I really don't get it. Jazz guitar (and bluegrass guitar) is boring and homogenous, yet pedals are synthetic and non-organic. Tube distortion is ok, though. Because tube distortion is organic.
  16. But isn't it this very ignorance of the "direct physical capablities" of an instrument that lead innovators to expand the instrument's range?
  17. I don't really understand the synthetic comment. How do you define synthetic?
  18. Then I guess I don't get what you're talking about. Maybe because I'm a "fan".
  19. I don't even know what that is. So I guess not. Does it matter? I really don't care. I agree. I agree. So where does Metheny score in all of this? I mean, he's not really concerned with the past either and is constantly moving forward. I guess I'm not getting what you're ranting about.
  20. Well, before Joe got into jazz he played bluegrass for several years and then metal for several more. So there's that theory, shot down...
  21. Nope... just your opinion. And a rather narrow one at that.
  22. No, but the way your post read, it sounded like you were saying, "Of course you wouldn't understand... you're jazz fans" and thus don't know anything about music beyond what your average non-musician would know. Are you not a jazz fan yourself?
  23. I'm looking for something for my Leslie 122 amp.
  24. Uh... Joe is a musician... and a very good one at that.
