  5. I just paid $16 for a shitty egg salad sandwich with dry bread, a bag of kettle chips, and a 6oz Chobani yogurt. Welcome to La Guardia!

  6. I'm on a Dan Simmons kick again, reading some of his horror novels I've not read before. I finished Carrion Comfort last week; that was scary. But Summer of Night? Wow. Horrifying and extremely well written. Fantastic characters. Good stuff!

  7. At dinner today there was a husband / wife / son family sitting at a table. The son was no older than 10. Dad and mom barely spoke a word to each other. The kid had headphones on and was glued to a portable video device, watching UP. I saw him reach across the table several times, without taking his eyes off the screen, to get another dinner roll. [continued below...]

  8. Hartford, CT at Black Eyed Sally's tonight. 9pm.

  12. "The only true education comes from what goes counter to you." ~ Andre Gide

  13. Travel day today (8 to 9 hours). Gotta find a new book to read.

  14. Performing on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour in Lexington, KY this evening. Woodsongs is nationally syndicated on over 500 stations including the American Forces Radio Network. It's a lot of fun!

  15. Tonight at Legends in Cincinnati, OH. Big thanks to all my MI friends for showing up last night. Great show! And special thanks to my sister-in-law Hillary Corlett for watching my kids so my wife and I could spend an evening together.

  16. Ann Arbor at The Ark tonight. My Michigan peeps represent! Best news: I get to see my wife for the first time in nearly a month.

  17. Gas station TVs: Because god forbid I'm alone with my own thoughts for more than a few seconds.

  18. Today we're in Warsaw, IN at the Glover Pavillion. Showtime 8pm!

  19. Tonight at Uncle Slayton's in Louisville, KY! Doors open at 8pm, ya'll!

  20. So I went through my SoundCloud feed last night as a last ditch effort to curb the extreme boredom that only 28 hours on the road in a van driving from Los Angeles to St. Louis will do to you and found some interesting tidbits, which I shall post below. Behold.

  21. “They (preachers) dread the advance of science as witches do the approach of daylight and scowl on the fatal harbinger announcing the subversions of the duperies on which they live” ~ Thomas Jefferson.

  22. Yesterday Los Angeles to Albuquerque. Today Albuquerque to St. Louis. Tomorrow St. Louis to Louisville. Ah, the road.

  23. He was cantankerous for sure; I only saw him live once and I tried to get back stage to meet him but his handlers were having none of it. He was sour and surly on stage, started 90 minutes late, and only played for 45 minutes. But then again he was in his upper 70s and I'm still glad I saw him live. He changed how the instrument is played, single-handedly redefining it. Can't say that for many other folks, regardless of instrument.
  24. Now I need to read the book re: Solaris. Intense.

  25. Yeah, I've stayed away from older books that have been transferred to the Kindle because in general the reviews for those transfers are bad. For instance, I want to re-read Orwell (Animal Farm, 1984) and there's a volume for the Kindle with both, but the reviews for that edition on the Kindle are very negative due to misspelled words, bad formatting, etc.
