My dad passed away four years ago today. Been thinking about him all day. I think about him every day.

This has been quite the weekend. Just learned that the amazing Michael Burks passed away at only 54. I played with him on the Legendary Blues Cruise in 2011. He could play... that's all I can say about that. The man could PLAY. Rest in peace, Iron Man.

Since my gig was cancelled tonight, I thought I'd take my beautiful bride out to the movies. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Looking at other homes in my neighborhood for shits and giggles. Nothing is selling for over $45k. That's about 1/3rd of what we paid for our house in 2003. Good thing we ain't going anywhere.

Thanks to Andy Szumowski at the Hop Cat Jazz Jam tonight, I got turned on to Belgian sour ale. YUM!

My maxim from yesterday is even more true today. Better bed, even less time in it than the night before. 5 hours of sleep and now on the road to Galesburg, IL to play the Fat Fish Pub. Sleep is for the weak!

Maxim of the road: The nicer the bed, the less time you have in it. Up bright and early to drive six hours to Minneapolis. Dakota Jazz tonight!

So if life begins at conception, can people start getting welfare for their new child the morning after?
