The cd sound is as expected for something recorded of that time. Nothing impressive and I doubt much that can be done about it. Oden is the weakest link in my opinion and far to forward in the mix, to the point I found it distracting. Only gave it one spin, may grow on me with more listens but I didn’t find it particularly memorable.

I almost worked for a company selling auto warranties. They actually told me that one of the principals had invented a way to spoof their outgoing phone calls, so that the do-not-call registry didn't have to be obeyed, and their phone center was rockin'.
I was there one night to observe, didn't like what I saw and didn't go back.
Less than a week later I saw in the paper that the feds had conducted a raid (during what would have been my evening shift) and arrested everybody and shut the place down. I guess my instincts were right. I thought it was hysterical that they would brag about being able to ignore the do-not-call registry but the Feds figured them out - if you're that brazen.
Just out of curiosity, how did this job offer come about? Did they find you or did you find them?

A side note: is Apple Music the crappiest streaming app there is or what? They have more good stuff than Amazon and Spotify, but man their interface and functionality suck.
I agree tend to agree its not great but I’ve gotten used to it. If I didn’t have an iPhone and MacBook I could see using Spotify over it. Apples search function, which shouldn’t be difficult seems to be spotty, or albums are labeled weird and impossible to find. Google and hitting the Apple Music link has proven best results, which should not be the case. Amazon is the worst IMO. Why the have incomplete albums I have no idea.

I think that double CD set of "State of the Tenor" sounds very good. In fact, Blue Noie reissued them in the Tone Poet vinyl reissue series and although everyone on the Hoffman forum raves about the sound, I think those CDs sound very similar. I regret spending the money on those expensive LPs.
I hated the sound of the CD set. I find it hard to listen to, or did, may be time to pull it out and listen to it on my new CD player.

Thanks for the insight.
Shopkeepers not caring about the storefront is never a good sign. Hope this set and the Armstrong set deliver them some revenue at least.
Not really sure I consider telling people what they could have had but can no longer have as caring about the store front. It not really useful business information to tell someone they can't have something.

Got my copy today, has the trademark ECM slipcase, interesting that it was apart of the packaging. May be a couple days until I get to spin it but looking forward to it.

I got my second Moderna shot yesterday. It kicked my ass today. Fatigue and body aches but it appears it’s behind me after multiple naps. Glad to be vaccinated. Going on vacation in August and anticipate I’ll still be wearing a mask.

Looks to be out March 20th in Japan, April 16th or so everywhere else. The Japan release appears to be vinyl and CD everywhere else. This is on the Redhook label from from ECM prodcuer Sun Chung. Standards reinterpreted by Poo. Oddly enough I don't hear any voicing in the video.

First Modern scheduled for tomorrow morning. Only crappy part for me is I have to drive from Long Beach to the valley to get it.

Does anyone know if Steeplechase has announced anywhere that they are switching to CD-Rs? I recently received a batch of 7 Steeplechase CDs and one of them was a CD-R.
Was it an older title?

Had Pfizer #1 a week ago at Fenway Park. It was well organized there. Unfortunately, it took 7.5 hours about a week and half before that to find a slot on line!
Had a sore arm, some headaches, and fatigue.
My wife had similar symptoms yesterday, she got the first moderna shot on Friday. We’ll see how she feels today.

Great. I'd never come across the term "beat tapes" until now, but the concept makes sense. I listen the jazz mostly at work (it's instrumental), along with stuff like J-Dilla (same logic), so I may try some of those.
J-Dilla exactly. I actually buy tapes mainly because I rebuilt a tape deck I got off Craigslist and like filling up my rack on the wall. Plus you still get to download them and tapes are cheap. The “genre” is a bit fractured on Bandcamp. It might be tagged instrumental hip hop, beat tape, beattape, etc. it’s fun to discover new sounds. Really like it if they have soul sampling with their beat.

What did you go for?
I got a bunch of beat tapes. I honestly haven't been listening to much jazz recently because I've been studying a lot for work. And I usually go through a period of a month or so where I almost exclusively listen to beat tapes.
Koreatown Oddity - When Pig Fly (Pig Tape from the Chinese New Years series)
and then I just splurged a little more for a couple tapes from Deep of 2 Hungry Bros.

picked up 8 titles that I had been holding in my cart

Damn you’re quick. I too am looking forward to this. Miranda with Carter and Bradford... no brainer.

Something I don't understand from the website. (This is purely academic, of course.) So, let's say you pay for Gilbert Gottfried to say something to somebody. (This is purely academic, of course.) Does he call and leave a voicemail if the person is not home? Does the money guarantee he will actually speak to the person, not into their voicemail? Is it just him talking, or is there a conversation?
The “celebrity” records a video and sends it.

Chat is texting and the celebrity is not required to respond.
a radio show I listen to have discussed this app so I’m familiar with how it works. Also...

Yeah. Media Mail to DFW has been good. They get here almost as fast as First Class, sometimes as fast.
Last order - Shipped 2/14, arrived 2/22. No complaints about that, especially considering the weather event.
Oddly(?) enough, sometimes a DG order will have cheaper First Class shipping than Media Mail. Go figure that. I take whatever's cheaper.
I’ve noticed that when you buy 2 single cds or less.

I wish I could find a reasonably priced source for Old Heaven Books releases in the US.
now playing: Koralle - Fonografle
a producer from Bologna, with heavy jazz influences as does much of the releases from the German, Melting Pot Music.
