It's hard to judge the deal offered and indeed probably not fair to pass too much comment as it only details some of the total costs. Nonetheless  it appears pretty transparent and clearly plenty of artists have signed up to Leo over the years. Presumably the catalogue has become so extensive because the financial risks are shared between artist and label. Can't imagine anyone making a boatload from any Leo release.

I agree. As an artist this seems like a fair proposition, and a reasonable way to keep cost down while still getting a physical product.

  2. I've got 30 albums with Ivo as leader. I personally love his work, but honestly his recent output is impossible to keep up with. And its put me off from buying them. There is just too much music to dedicate this much time and money to him. He does put together some of the most interesting collectives of artists/instruments of any artists.

  3. Recently I've seen

    Ingrid Laubrock & Tom Rainey

Vinny Golia Quartet w/ Steve Adams, Matt Small and John Hanes

    Gregory Porter

Joshua White + Codes w/ Dwight Trible, Ralph Moore,  Dean Hulett, and Jonathan Pinson

Rudresh Mahanthappa's Bird Call w/ Adam O'Farrill, Joshua White, Thomas Kneeland, and Dan Weiss

Its been a good run recently. Hoping to catch Gavin Templeton Quartet this Friday too

  6. Saw Logan Richardson on Saturday. Pretty good set, only got to stay for the first one. Wasn't completely happy with the mix, guitar was way to loud. Logan was buried at times. Tommy Crane was on drums and that man was insane!

Oh and should be going to Gavin Templeton on Wed. For his album release. He's a fantastic performer, I saw him a couple years ago with Vinny Golia and immediately bought his catalog. And as a bonus Joshua White will be on piano and he is fantastic as well.

  7. I've had music go missing from iTunes, but the ripped files are still located in my iTunes library folder. I don't know how apple could delete the files off your hard drive. They can't arbitrarily delete files from a hard drive.

  8. I will pick up additional copies of stuff I find that is rare to supplement my buying habit. All copies in great shape, no promo marks.

All prices include shipping in the US

  9. Has anyone else been disappointed by new Blue Note releases? This for me goes back a ways but I started thinking about it again while listening to the new Marcus Strickland album I got today. I think I'm only missing one of Marcus' releases and this was the least satisfying on first listen. Which was also the case with Takuya Kuroda's Blue Note debut after 3 extremely solid indie releases. To a lesser extent, the Jason Moran "All Rise" which I absolutely enjoy, and feel that Jason captured Fats with a unique and beautiful tribute that was still decidedly Moran, I was still left wondering if part of this release had "label direction". On a side note, I think what they've done for Gregory Porter and other vocalists, outstanding. Anyone else have similar feeling?
