did you touch him in his "special area?"

Thanks for posting this! I cancelled my BMG account, too. MWTGA - I get $4.99 when I click on that link.

in the spirit of the last few posts, I just got an email from Eremite: available now at eremite.com, $-25- peter brötzmann & han bennink still quite popular after all those years brö 4 (l/p) peter brötzmann -- a-clarinet, tarogato, alto & tenor saxophones han bennink -- drums side 'A' 1. clarinet/drums 2. tarogato/drums 3. clarinet/drums side 'B' 1. clarinet/drums 2. alto/drums 3. tenor/drums recorded 4 & 5 february, 2004, at the loft, köln the 2nd release on brö since the label's 2003 revival presents a continuation of one of the great duos in free music history, peter brötzmann & han bennink. brötzmann organized a series of concerts with bennink in early 2004 for the ultimate purpose of capturing these moments, their first duo music on record since 1980's atsugi concert. the particular chemistry & poetry b/t these two old friends is still furiously alive; but the accumulation of experience & years by both artists brings new areas of consideration. this is brötzmann /bennink music formulated at once more carefully & more freely; every gesture here sounds earned, decisive, vital. as with brö 3, the record itself is pressed on real audiophile 180 gram vinyl by RTI. artwork by both brötzmann & bennink, jackets silk-screened by siwa records, oregon, u.s.a., in a numbered edition of 999. there is a shipping/handling charge for brö products on all domestic & foreign orders. orders w/in the u.s.: first class shipping rates will depend on your zip code, please include it when ordering. media rate is a flat rate of $3.50. insurance is optional & costs an additional $1.30. we will not "guarantee" brös sent w/o insurance. canadian & overseas orders, we will quote you a shipping price based on your preferred shipping method. still a few copies avail. of the peter brotzmann discography, compiled by kouichi ohshima. 7x10", 55 page illustrated discography, paperback, glossy stock cover, quite nice. published in japan 1997 (all english text), numbered edition of 200. $-35- I wonder if Brotz is going to be releasing as many albums this year as he did in '04?

Perhaps if Mosaic issued the Complete Significant Other with alternate takes? Only if significant other was mastered by Malcolm Addey.

Yes, I've gone cold-turkey, too. I placed a few orders last month, including a pre-order for the next few Erstwhile releases which are coming out this week, but that's it for a while. I'm not setting a specific goal for how long I'm going to hold off. I'm just planning on taking it one month at a time.

Al, I haven't had time to pull together my thoughts on the Christmas disc, but I will try to do so in the next few days. It did get a lot of play over the holidays while the family was staying with us. Great disc!

Al, Very nice BFT! I have no clue who any of the artists are on the first half of the test. Track #1 has to be off of an old Looney Tunes episode, but I'm not well-versed enough to know which one. I'm not normally a fan of big band music, but I really enjoyed your selections. Track #2, in particular, was a lot of fun. I didn't do much better guessing any of the tracks on the second half of the disc, either. Track #16 is from here. and is fantastic! I really enjoyed tracks 13 - 17, although track #13 is driving me crazy. I feel like I've heard this version before, and I'll probably kick myself ehrn you announce who these musicians are. I'm guessing the snippet of the Godfather at the beginning is spliced in. Great test! As clueless as I am I really enjoyed listening to your choices!

Wait until Hans gets his index together. Then we'll all see just how far behind we are. (Except for that moneybags Russian guy, that is. And ubu seems to be practically drowing in music lately. Come to think of it, Hans has a pretty huge collection. Looks like it's just you and me Gary. ) you too, Gary! sending both you and Chaney a PM...

There is also an article on Jandek on Corwood in the newest issue of Signal to Noise. After scanning the article there doesn't really seem to be anything new reported in it. (edit) I just went back to the start of the thread and saw that the article is an old one and available through a link Chaney posted.

I just got this from BMG and it is indeed a very good album.

I finally had a chance to listen to this disc today and really enjoyed it. I'll have to re-listen to the Nels Cline Singers, as I haven't heard that album in quite some time, but my first impression was that the HT disc is more rock-inclined than D.D. seemed to think. A solid release, and well worth much more than the $3 I paid for it, either way.

Terribly sad news about a fellow forum member
John B replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
RIP, grey. I'm really sorry to hear this. My condolences to his family. -
I have finally had time to sit down and listen to the newest disc from Triage, American Mythology. It is very strong. As good, if not better than, 20 Minute Cliff.

correct! (your guess, that is. Not the content of his quote.)

Here is another pearl of wisdom for you to figure out: "Charlie Parker would squeak a lot, and that's why they called him Bird, because his reed would chirp. "

Hast Seen the New Metal Album?
John B replied to 7/4's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
It's an amazing review. Makes me want to run out and pick up the album. I don't listen to much metal these days, but I'm curious. The band is extremely tight, with the drummer, in particular, being very impressive. The music is intelligent, with moments of calm among the more aggressive parts. I don't really hear any connection to jazz, however. If you go to the Relapse Records website and scroll down a bit there are mp3s of two tracks off of this album you can listen to. The second track, Blood and Thunder, is one of my fvorite tracks on the album. These will give you a good sense of what is in store should you buy the album. -

This album is fantastic. One of the best discs I have heard in a long time. -
I'll have to check that one out when it is released. I've reallly enjoyed all of Efzeg's discs (Wurm, Grain and Boogie) so far. Each of them is worth exploring for fans of this music.

Happy Holidays to all of my friends at Funny Rat! Great list of Hat titles!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this recognition results in enough sales to get us some more cd reissues in 2005. I'd love to be able to buy copies of Wadada Leo Smith's Spirit Catcher, Roscoe Mitchell's Nonaah and Charles Tyler's Saga of the Outlaws on cd.

My favorite Christmas music (although I won't be spinning it when the in-laws are in town) is a 7" record by a Boston punk band The Showcase Showdown called Merry Christmas, I F*cked Your Snowman / Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh. The cover art with Ho in a Santa cap is priceless.

Correct: "By the way, though I haven't watched Ray in Brazil through, when I previewed it I caught one item that will certainly be of interest to many: an instrumental with a tenor battle between Fathead Newman & Tina Brooks." Who are you quoting, John? I grabbed this over the weekend, I'm going to identify it as a "Santa" gift to me and the Mrs. I promise it will be the very first thing we watch after the World Series DVD. But seriously, when did Tina Brooks get a gig with Ray? How long did it last? It would make me wonder if Tina's life could have been different if he had a steady gig with Ray ... a poster over at Jazz Corner, Pete C, who occasionaly posts here. I still haven't seen the dvd myself.

This is really nice to hear. Merry Christmas, Chuck!
