  1. It's not corporal punishment that worries me; what about captain punishment, major punishment, or (gulp!) colonel punishment???? Don't even mention GENERAL punishment....
  2. Nice story, Chuck.
  3. Chet Baker is most decidedly overated, particularly his singing. Brubeck is, if anything, a bit underated, at least by a lot of hardcore jazzfans.
  4. So this is going to be on Uptown?
  5. Did I mention John Coltrane?
  6. Listened to The Sidewinder and Search For the New Land a few days ago.
  7. John Coltrane
  8. I thought the first was the one for Forbidden Planet. Well, admittedly it's more like an accumulation of sound effects than an actual musical score.
  9. Sad news. But he seems to have lived a varied and interesting life. RIP.
  10. "Beat on the brat; beat on the brat; beat on the brat with a baseball bat Oh yeah---oh yeah---oh ho..." ---Joey Ramone
  11. Reece's work on Duke Jordan's album Flight To Jordan is also highly recommended.
  12. Homo Piper (for all you sf fans out there.)
  13. Does anyone (besides me) remember when they were on SNL? They were playing, well, I don't remember what, but in the middle of the performance Elvis stopped the band and launched into a different number, a blazing version of "Radio Radio." I'll never forget it, because it got me totally hooked on his music. The song they were playing on SNL was "Less Than Zero" which dealt with a British politician (Oswald Mosley). Here in the States we would think "Mr. Oswald" was Lee Harvey or something so the song doesn't really mean anything on this side of the pond. That's why EC said something like "I'm sorry - there's no reason for us to play this song" and then jumped into "Radio, Radio". At the time, "Less Than Zero" was their current hit in Britain so that's probably why they chose it in the first place. I remember that; it was so cool. One of those few and far between great television moments. I heard it got him banned from SNL for a while. (Not that he seemed to care at all.)
  14. Yeah, I'll probably see it. I'm still waiting for a movie about The Five Royales, though.
  15. YEAH, baby!!
  16. I was hoping the Sox would win it in 4, and they DID! I'm dumbfounded...and happy!
  17. A pretty amazing finding though. Cool.
  18. So, a Hollywood biopic sentimentalized the life of its subject? I'm shocked, SHOCKED...
  19. This line hits the nail on the head, I believe.
  20. I heard about this on NPR and think it's the best invention since the long-playing record. Now for three more inventions: A remote that will shut off and disable nearby loud car stereos, one that will turn off cell-phones, and a small gizmo that will generate a protective force field in case anyone discovers who is turning off their cell-phones, car stereos, and TV's.
  21. Can't you just ask someone at the church? DTMX---thanks for stealing my line!
  22. I'm hoping the Sox will win, but I'm not betting on it.
  23. Heavy man.
  24. Paul Desmond Mosaic.
