  1. Yes, Carl wanted to join the Kenton Band as a trumpet player, but only a mellophonium chair was open, so he accepted it. I believe the mouthpieces on those horns are quite similar. Then went back to trumpet after a couple of years with Kenton. Versatile? For sure. I find his lead playing on this CD to be outstanding. Listening now:
  2. I heard that Carl Saunders passed away last night. R.I.P. A wonderful musician and trumpet player, jazz and/or lead (Bill Holman Band). This is a very fine recording.
  3. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ Now:
  4. R.I.P. Guido Basso was an exceptionally fine player who I also had the chance to hear live several times. He didn't record a lot under his own name, (he was well featured with the Boss Brass), but there are a couple of recordings he co-led with altoist Dave Turner and this one which I will listen to soon. w. Frank Collett, Andy Simpkins and Terry Clarke
  5. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ Now:
  6. I don't listen often to any of the Marsalises , but I must say, this one is pretty good.
  7. πŸ‘Yes, excellent. Now: πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘
  8. πŸ‘ Now: One of my desert island recordings, no matter how small the list may be. πŸ‘ Every Basie Roulette is wonderful, IMHO.
