  1. Lots of them. The Fantasy recordings are generally very good, even as they reflect the early-mid 70's big band style. But Giant Steps and Thundering Herd are superb and timeless big band recordings. Woody's Winners and My Kind of Broadway on Columbia. All of the Philips recordings. Woody Herman Band and Road Band on Capitol. All these have been made available on CD, I believe.
  2. Yes, one and the same. Back in the day, I bought a number of these Jazz Icons DVD's.
  3. Such a joy to not only hear Wes, but to see him in action.
  4. Sometimes you CAN tell a book (or a recording) by its cover!
  5. I've never heard this one, but anyway. Now: re: The Adam Shulman recording. It is a good one. Well worth 44 minutes of your listening time. Both saxophonists are in fine form. Stewart in particular sounds better here (to me anyway) than on his own "Lighting of the Lamps" CD recorded a day before.
  6. I have only a handful of Walt Weiskopf recordings, but I quite enjoy them. Walt is a very strong musician.
  7. For sure. Fabulous. Getz's solo on "Mosquito Knees" is absolutely gripping.
  8. The WDR was asleep, but the the SWR was awake and produced this wonderful CD. Bob's Limited Edition produced many wonderful recordings, but this one IMHO, is the summit.
  9. - with Jake Hanna it's always in my book. Now: This is one of the most enjoyable recordings I have heard this year. Nothing earth-shattering or ground breaking, but just really good listening. Having a hard time putting it away on the shelves.
