  1. Possibly Ernesto Lecuona's "Malaguena" would qualify.
  2. Bronislaw Kaper's "On Green Dolphin Street" was written as the theme to the movie Green Dolphin Street. I don't know when lyrics were added.
  3. "Watermelon Man" was a big hit for him but Herbie Hancock wrote it. "Sofrito" is a great Mongo Santamria tune that is kind of a Latin jazz classic "Grazin' In The Grass" -- forget which South African musician wrote it (not Mr. Masekela), but it seems lots of musicians occasionally quote it even if they don't often play it.
  4. Some of the musicians I listed did record a track or two of holiday related music, but I would have loved to have heard them interpret a whole album's worth of such material. A few more to add to my list: The original Benny Goodman Trio & Quartet Johnny Hartman Carmen McRae Red Garland Hank Jones & Charlie Haden
  5. The online version of Tower Records, which existed after the Tower stores closed, gave away those little things with purchases. I have two or three of them and they are very helpful and get the job done easily.
  6. Among musicians who I wish had recorded a Christmas album: Earl Hines Johnny Hodges Ruby Braff Wes Montgomery Sarah Vaughan George Adams & Don Pullen Louis Prima & Keely Smith Coleman Hawkins Stan Getz Paul Desmond Jaki Byard The MJQ Slim Gaillard Eddie Condon & Co. (Pee Wee Russell, Bud Freeman, George Wettling, etc.) Gene Harris 1960's era Ahmad Jamal 1950's and 1990's era Sonny Rollins
