Anyone familiar with these recordings? Are they jazzy? Or are they supposed to be straight classical recordings? Has anyone reviewed them? Thanks in advance for any reactions and/or references to reviews.

Thanks to all. Those comments are very helpful. I'll try the recording when I get a chance. In response to b3-er's "What gives?", I can't offer any argument as to why I think organs and e-pianos are bad in jazz recordings. It's been my experience that I just don't like them when I hear them in jazz recordings. But maybe I'll change my mind one of these days. I used to feel the same way about e-guitars. But Kenny Dorham's "'Round Midnight at Cafe Bohemia" changed that. Now, I really like some of Burrell, Johnny Smith, Farlow, G. Green, Jim Hall, etc.

I have a question some of you may consider silly. But I'm wondering how bad/distracting John Lewis's vocal sounds are on these recordings. I've heard from a couple of sources that this is a worry. I personally find Bud Powell's grunting tolerable and at times even enhancing. But I find Mingus's and Keith Jarrett's vocal sounds so distracting/pretentious/unnecessary that I find myself avoiding their recordings -- despite thinking that each of their music has much merit. I thought I should get some more reactions before trying to get these John Lewis CDs. Your help is appreciated.

Could someone tell me on how many tracks Moran plays just the acoustic piano, and on how many he plays e-piano or organ? I like Moran, but would like to avoid this if it is full of e-piano/organ playing. Thanks in advance.

Dmitry, Thanks a lot. Hope you enjoy the CD.

Could someone tell me on how many tracks Baker sings? I like his trumpet playing, but not his singing. I would like to have this information before I decide to buy this new re-issue. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone dealt with this seller before? Do you think these are remainders?

Just sent you an e-mail regarding the Dorham TOCJ

Some weeks ago, I sent in suggestions for Selects of Bill Perkins and Bob Brookmeyer. "MC" wrote back saying that they are considering a Brookmeyer set, and that he will add Perkins to their list. I also suggested a Mariano set, but did not get a response on that. I have a couple of Mariano recordings from Bethlehem, and really like them. And Mariano sounds great on the Chaloff set. I would also like a set (Select or regular set) of Artie Shaw's Gramercy 5 band.

Thank you for your very helpful replies. I know many would disagree, but I just wish that organs were banned from jazz!!
-
I believe both organ and piano are played on this album. (That's what AMG says.) Does anyone know how many tracks have organ on them, and how many have piano? I really like Green's BN albums, and would like to try this Bethlehem title, but I'm just not a big jazz organ fan.

I got this on ebay, and paid a fair bit of money. But I found out that it is not my cup of tea.
