  1. I ordered two Jackie & Roy CDs today: This Jasmine CD compiles two ABC-Paramount LPs: The Glory of Love (1956) and Bits and Pieces (1957) and Free and Easy! (1958); originally released on ABC-Paramount, reissued by Universal Japan
  2. Now Disc 2 from this set, recorded in Juan-le-Pins: Sheesh, I LOVE the groove that Jack DeJohnette brings to this music.
  3. Disc 3 - The "Lost Quintet" in Stockholm, 1969
  4. Now streaming: Miroslav Vitous - Purple (CBS/Sony Japan, 1970)
  5. NP: Totally agree. Great record. 👍
  6. I described them as "Wonderbread" when I first heard them. That was indeed my first impression. ... But my thinking about them has changed significantly over time. ... What can I say? Sometimes, first impressions are accurate; sometimes, they aren't. That said, I wasn't the person who bought felser's set. I have half a dozen of their LPs. That's (probably) enough for me. Yes. This.
  7. More Sonora Ponceña:
  8. Sonora Ponceña – La Orquesta de Mi Tierra (Inca/Fania, 1978)
  9. Disc 1 - The Bracknell Connection, originally released in 1976 on Tracey's own Steam label
  10. Totally agree. I like how the music flows and flows -- and then modulates into terrific, polyphonic climaxes. ... Keith Tippett's piano is also outstanding.
  11. Yeah, Stenson is terrific, and that album is special, for sure. I'd probably choose Richie Beirach's Elm as my favorite ECM piano trio -- but Serenity wouldn't be far behind.
  12. Understood! Always nice to have a gem to look forward to.
  13. Now: Earlier: I don't have Bittersweet. Will have to keep an eye out for it. @jazzbo, I agree with you that Carmen sounds great when she's playing piano. I assume you've heard/got her album As Time Goes By: Carmen McRae Alone Live At The Dug. Like the title says, it's just her playing the piano & singing. It's tremendous -- right up there with her very best, imo.
  14. Next up: Mary Lou Williams - Nite Life (Chiaroscuro, 2 CDs) Terrific solo piano
  15. Martial Solal with Gary Peacock & Paul Motian - Just Friends (Dreyfus, 1997)
