  1. Yes! I'm especially partial to Ashkenazy's way with Sibelius' Fifth Symphony. It always knocks me out.
  2. Disc 2 - Symphonies Nos. 5 & 7; En Saga
  3. It's turning out to be an Al Haig evening:
  4. Al Haig with Jamil Nasser - Interplay (SeaBreeze, 1976) Lovely duo performances.
  5. Now spinning: Al Haig - Reminiscence (Progressive Japan, 1977) with Jamil Nasser (b) and Frank Gant (d); subsequently reissued as Ornithology
  6. That looks interesting, Peter. Are you enjoying it?
  7. Now playing: Al Haig / Jimmy Raney - Freedom Jazz Dance (Choice) originally released in 1975 as Strings Attached
  8. Now playing: Earlier:

  10. Thanks for this feedback, @medjuck. NP: Giovanni Hidalgo - Time Shifter (TropiJazz/Sony, 1996)
  11. Pre-ordered from Dusty Groove today, two albums due to be available at the end of January 2024: Mal Waldron-Terumasa Hino - Reminiscent Suite (Victor JP) BBE reissue Irakere - Grupo Irakere (Areito/EGREM) Mr. Bongo reissue Both albums are long-time favorites, but I've only heard them as MP3 downloads. The collector in me loves that I will finally have these albums as tangible objects, and the music lover in me can't wait to hear them in higher fidelity!
  12. Dan, I agree with you 100%. It's indefensible, a complete sham. I follow the Georgia Bulldogs. We didn't win, and we were rightfully excluded. I just say this to let you know that not all people who follow SEC football are "SEC homers." It's RIDICULOUS that FSU was excluded. They should have been the three seed, and Texas should have been the four seed. Records have to matter. Otherwise, why play the game? Your right. It ends up being a "beauty contest." And they can base it on anything they wish. It's absurd.
  13. Akira Miyazawa - Bull Trout (Victor JP, 1969) Tenor Saxophone, Percussion – Akira Miyazawa Piano, Percussion – Masahiko Satoh Bass – Yasuo Arakawa Drums, Percussion – Masahiko Togashi Percussion – Yohnosuke Segami
  14. Last night: This morning:
  15. Yep. It's special.
  16. Now streaming: Imada Masaru Quartet - Now!! (TBM)
  17. A disc that goes to my desert island.
  18. Next up: Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache Band ‎- Moliendo Café (Sunnyside)
  19. I agree 100%. It seems like there's relatively little info available (in English) on J-Jazz. So I can scarcely imagine not taking the plunge on this book. Makes sense to me.
  20. Yeah, I've had the same experience. Not sure why there's a pre-order option sometimes and not others.
  21. Thanks Rooster!
