  2. For me, the word might be therapeutic.
  3. Last night and again this morning: Jovino Santos Neto - Roda Carioca (Adventure Music, 2006) @jazzbo, I think you hipped me to this one. Good stuff! Thanks.
  4. I'm still completely caught up in Baden Powell's music:
  5. Now spinning: Oliver Lake - Impala (Gramavision, 1987) with Geri Allen, Santi Debriano, and Pheeroan Aklaff Funny that you mention Eckstine. He was definitely a big influence on Prysock.
  6. Solid JP reissue
  7. Now playing: Cal Tjader - Here and There (Fantasy) CD compiles two LPs: Guarabe (Fantasy, 1977) and Here (Galaxy, 1979) IMO, Tjader made a raft of outstanding records in the 1970s. Guarabe might be the best of them.
  8. Y'all stay safe !!!!!!!
  9. Now spinning: Prysock in Philly International mode. He even opens the album with a Gamble & Huff tune.
  10. I think this archival recording -- recorded in 1977 but only released in 2007 -- is probably Foster's best with his Loud Minority Band: Perhaps it might make for an easier path into his music? If you haven't heard it already . . . Sublime.
  11. More Brit-Jazz from the 70s:

  13. Yes! So much wonderful music. Totally agree too re: Horizons. Along with Sama Layuca, it's probably the McCoy album that I play most often.
  14. Disc 1 - recordings from '80 & '81
  15. Yeah, that cover is wretched. As for the music, it's never been an album that's blown me away either. It's good -- on some days I might even say very good -- but nothing more than that. I really enjoy this particular BE trio (with Gomez & Morell), but I think they did their best work elsewhere. Now spinning: I have this version of Ben & Sweets in my collection.
  16. Cool memories! Thanks for sharing them. I have LPs from my father's collection that are very special to me. Lots of positive associations.
  17. New Testament Basie takes off.
  18. @Teasing the Korean, next week's race, the Italian GP, will be at 3:00pm local time (in Italy) and 9:00 am on the US east coast. It's at Autodromo Nazionale MONZA, which is known as "The Temple of Speed." TTK, given your interests, I bet you'll recall the Monza raceway from the 1966 film Grand Prix. One of the film's characters, Sarti, played by Yves Montand, dies in a racing accident there. Along with Montand, the film features a terrific cast -- with James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and Toshiro Mifune. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), the high, banked walls that are shown in the film were later removed from the circuit. They were deemed to be too dangerous. Also, many other safety features have been implemented since then, particularly chicanes, which are designed to reduce speeds. Even so, Monza is still Monza -- one of the most special circuits & races on the F1 calendar.
