  1. Yes sir! I completely agree that Tucker deserves/deserved much more recognition. He made some terrific albums (like Mister Mysterious), and his playing as a sideman usually elevated others' dates -- including that Junior Cook LP.
  2. I really like that one.
  3. John Coates, Jr - In the Open Space (Omnisound, 1979)
  4. Now spinning: Junior Cook - Pressure Cooker (Affinity; originally Catalyst, rec. 1977) with Mickey Tucker (p); Cecil McBee or Juini Booth (b); Leroy Williams (d)
  5. Great story! Thanks for sharing that, Peter.
  6. Harold Alexander - Sunshine Man (Flying Dutchman, 1971) Flute, Soprano Saxophone – Harold Alexander Electric Piano – Neal Creque Bass, Electric Bass – Richard Davis Drums – Pretty Purdie Congas – Richard Landrum
  7. I'm looking forward to hearing it. I took the plunge "on spec" -- since it's not available for streaming on the web.
  8. Me too. I remember the first time I heard Terumasa Hino & his group with Mal Waldron on Reminiscent Suite. I was BLOWN AWAY. "Aside from Mal, everyone in this band is Japanese?!?!?" It was VERY eye-opening. Yep, Terumasa Hino played with Liebman's group in the late-70s, just before he formed Quest.
  9. Yes, I can hear exactly what you're talking about! Invitation to Openness is perhaps a bit less thrusting and urgent than BB. McCann's album is more gentle and meandering. But both of their conceptions are definitely similar: jam sessions that are electric, percussive & orchestral. NP:
