  1. Yes sir. He's only one cut on this disc. But it's a good cut!
  2. One of Richie's best records, IMO.
  3. Roland Kirk - The Inflated Tear (Atlantic)
  4. Dizzy Gillespie - Odyssey: 1945-1952 (Savoy) Disc 1
  5. That looks very interesting, Ken. Thanks for the heads-up!
  6. Yeah. That's some strong stuff. And don't forget this one-off record with Dexter!
  7. Today, I ordered Eric Nisenson's book, Open Sky: Sonny Rollins and His World Improvisation (Da Capo, 2000). Looking forward to reading it. Has anyone read it? If so, I'd love to hear your impressions.
  8. Studio sessions from 1972-73 with John Hicks, Cedar Walton, Woody Shaw, Carter Jefferson, Stanley Clarke, et al
  9. That looks interesting, jcam. Good stuff? "The Iguana's Ritual" !!! (and all the rest too) Love that Blakey band with Bobby Watson and James Williams. I included that LP in my 70s jazz survey.
  10. More Sonny. I'm now listening to Freedom Suite. Playlist drawn from this set:
  11. Nice catch! I've never heard of a record that's 33 RPM on one side and 45 RPM on the other. Very odd. That makes it an even cooler artifact.
  12. Just saw an astonishing fact about this LP on Wikipedia: It got 3 stars in Downbeat when it was first released. Wow. They missed the boat! I'd be interested to see what the reviewer had to say about the music. Did he think it was too "out"?
  13. Next up -- LvB's Fourth Piano Concerto, as performed by Kempff, Leitner, and the BPO:
  14. Mahler: Symphony No. 3 / Kubelik, Thomas, Bavarian RSO (DG) as heard in this set: Postscript: I'm reminded again that Kubelik's M3 is one of THE recordings of this epic symphony. The work is near the end right now, and these final moments are thrilling!!!
  15. More Mahler: Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" / Stokowski, Fassbaender, Price, LSO & Chorus (RCA) as heard in this set:
  16. Mahler: Symphony No. 5 / Barbirolli, New Philharmonia O (EMI)
  17. Me too! Only got the disc a few months ago. If you dig Mal, I'd snag that Solid reissue before it's G-O-N-E.
