  1. Outstanding. The ERMs best maybe. Mingus and Kirk on fire!
  2. Low jazz quotient. But still very enjoyable.
  3. FWIW, I think the final Keystone recordings are much more successful than the last ones from the Vanguard. ... Not even close.
  4. Richie Beirach - ZAL (Trio, Japan) Beautiful duos with Yoshiaki Masuo (g) and Terumasa Hino (tr)
  5. NP: Earlier: I like the cuts with Clay, but -- IMO -- the tracks with Buster and Land are the bee's knees.
  6. Two LPs due to arrive in my mailbox today: and
  7. Another Lalo Schifrin suite for Dizzy ... This CD version also includes The Carnegie Hall Concert. I haven't heard My People in a long while. Thanks for the prompts, jazzbo. ... but now you've got me wanting to hear the original, mono LP release -- which I don't have. Ellington-ophilia is a never-ending condition!
  8. I've been dragging today, so I'm listening to The Cutting Edge. The Sound of Sonny is always a potent pick-me-up. So much LIFE in that horn!
  9. NP: "Lockjaw" Davis - Sweet and Lovely (Classic Jazz; licensed from Black & Blue) with "Sweets" Edison
  10. Moving on to Dizzy's The New Continent, composed & arranged by Lalo Schifrin: Hooray to Lalo for this lush and deliciously soundtrack-y setting to showcase Diz. Not really important but still fun: I have the original Limelight LP with the pop-up gatefold sleeve.
  11. Hampton Hawes - Live at The Montmartre (Arista-Freedom, 1975) with Henry Franklin (b) and Michael Carvin (d); recorded 1971 I really dig this record -- along with the companion LP, A Little Copenhagen Night Music. ... Maybe I'll play that one next.
  12. Thanks for the heads-up on this, Larry. Totally unfamiliar with this one. Looks enticing for sure.
  13. Oh man! So good !!!
  14. Cal Tjader - Puttin' It Together (Fantasy, 1974) Recorded live in January 1973 at Howard Rumsey's Concerts by the Sea Excellent.
  15. Two favorites: and
  16. with Frank Wess & Joe Newman Also, yesterday's entry in my blog.
  17. NP: as heard on: A great band!
