  1. Oh man. That's a bummer, Pim! At a minimum, I hope you get your € € € back.
  2. Now spinning on my turntable: Turning out to be a day filled with "Glorious John." Enjoying it so much that I've pulled more Barbirolli recordings from my shelf.
  3. Next: Barbirolli's masterful Mahler 6 with the New Philharmonia:
  4. Now listening to Barbirolli's famous recording of RVW's A London Symphony with The Hallé. Such luminous music, beautifully realized.
  5. The Cello Sonatas - with Gregor Piatigorsky
  6. Some classical discs I've ordered lately: Hard to go wrong with Martinon in French repertoire. ... I know the "Organ" Symphony -- like everyone else. But none of the others. I already have (and like) Thomson's second volume of Bax Tone Poems. ... Always nice to fill a missing "Volume 1" gap when "Volume 2" is already on the shelf. Or am I the only person who thinks like that? I have a couple WTC recordings by pianists. None by harpsichordists. And Gilbert just passed recently ... More Sibelius from Vänskä.
  7. Disc 17 - Schubert: Octet in F, D.803
  8. Disc 5 - Mozart: Violin Sonata No. 32 in B Flat, K 454 - Beethoven: Violin Sonata No. 3 in E Flat, Op. 12 No. 3 - Brahms: Violin Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108 with pianist Vladimir Yampolsky David Oistrakh is such a magnificent musician!
  9. I've wanted this CD for a while, and yesterday I found it for a reasonable price on eBay. ... Patterson is excellent, and Booker Ervin's presence seals the deal. Both of the two Marion Brown / Mal Waldron collaborations are fantastic. ... Nearly on par with Waldron's many outings with Steve Lacy. Different, of course. But that good!
  10. Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune; Nocturnes; Clair de lune (from Suite bergamasque, arr. Stokowski); Ibéria (from Images pour orchestre) / Stokowski, Various Orchestras (EMI)
  11. Ella with that line-up!
  12. I agree. No comparison. I was so disappointed with Teachout's Ellington bio. ... I had high expectations, since I'd already read his Pops book -- and I think that one is very fine.
  13. Oh man. So good!!! Desert-island Earl Hines!
  14. Sonny Stitt with Strings: A Tribute to Duke Ellington (Catalyst, 1977) with string arrangements by Bill Finnegan Much more enjoyable than most "with strings" jazz LPs. I dig.
