Coltrane Jazz was some of the first Coltrane I ever heard -- so this record is extra special to me.
Listening to it today, I'm still floored by the power and authority in this music.
More desert-island music:
Duke Ellington - Piano Reflections (Capitol Jazz)
James Moody - Moods (Up Front)
Reissue of an LP originally released as Running the Gamut (Scepter, 1965); with Thad Jones (tr), Patti Bown (p), Reggie Workman (b), Tootie Heath (d), and Marie Volpee (vo).
Elvin Jones - Time Capsule (Vanguard)
Jones featured a bevy of saxophone heavies on most of his albums in the Seventies. This one includes Frank Foster, George Coleman, Frank Wess, and fellow Vanguard label-mate Bunky Green.
When I contacted the seller and complained about the condition of the LPs, he immediately offered to refund two-thirds of the price I'd originally paid. So I decided to keep the album rather than return it.
I guess he didn't want to bother with returns process either. Oh well. I'm fine with the mediocre-condition vinyl at the lower price.
That may be so.
I'd be disappointed if Jones always played electric piano. But, since he didn't, I don't mind hearing it occasionally.
Just my take, of course!
