  1. More Elvin: Elvin Jones - Coalition (Blue Note, 1970)
  2. Elvin Jones - Time Capsule (Vanguard) Jones featured a bevy of saxophone heavies on most of his albums in the Seventies. This one includes Frank Foster, George Coleman, Frank Wess, and fellow Vanguard label-mate Bunky Green.
  3. Frank Foster - Leo Rising (Arabesque)
  4. Harry "Sweets" Edison - Just Friends (Black & Blue) Sweets and Jaws always sound good together.
  5. Roy Eldridge & Dizzy Gillespie - Roy and Diz (Verve, 1954) with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown & Louie Bellson
  6. No electric piano on this one. Lots of heavy bari-playing tho'!
  7. When I contacted the seller and complained about the condition of the LPs, he immediately offered to refund two-thirds of the price I'd originally paid. So I decided to keep the album rather than return it. I guess he didn't want to bother with returns process either. Oh well. I'm fine with the mediocre-condition vinyl at the lower price.
  8. That may be so. I'd be disappointed if Jones always played electric piano. But, since he didn't, I don't mind hearing it occasionally. Just my take, of course!
  9. NP -- prompted by soulpope's Byas post above: Don Byas - A Night in Tunisia (Black Lion)
  10. Prime KB! Cal Tjader - Breathe Easy (Galaxy, 1978) with Hank Jones, Monty Budwig, and Shelly Manne Given the suggestive (porn-like? porn-y? porno-esque?) cover photo, you might reasonably expect equally suggestive wocka-wocka guitars and funky electric basses. But no. It's just a chilled-out, straight-ahead session of jazz standards. One "Hey, it's the 1970's!" aspect of the LP: Hank Jones mostly sticks to electric piano -- which isn't an issue for me, although it might be a source of frustration for others.
  11. This again: David Newman - The Weapon (Atlantic)
  12. Lucky Thompson - Illuminations (Groove Merchant) LP 2
  13. Jack McDuff - The Heatin' System (Cadet, 2 LPs) Just received in the mail yesterday. I'm sorta bummed because the condition of the records isn't nearly as good as described by seller. Now I've got to decide whether to go through the PITA of sending them back. Argh!!! As for the music... it's terrific.
  14. What do you think of that CD, jlhoots? I've not heard it. NP: Mike Wofford Trio - Live at Athenaeum Jazz (Capri) with Peter Washington & Victor Lewis
  15. Andy LaVerne Trio - Another World (SteepleChase) with Mike Richmond & Billy Hart
  16. I think Never Again is slightly better. But Feelin' It Together is still darn good, well worth tracking down.
  17. James Moody - Feelin' It Together (32 Jazz; originally Muse)
