  1. Coltrane Jazz was some of the first Coltrane I ever heard -- so this record is extra special to me. Listening to it today, I'm still floored by the power and authority in this music. More desert-island music: Duke Ellington - Piano Reflections (Capitol Jazz)
  2. Listening to a couple Oregon records this morning: Music of Another Present Era (Vanguard) 45th Parallel (Portrait)
  3. Kenny Barron & Dave Holland - The Art of Conversation (Impulse) Enjoyed this so much that I played it twice.
  4. Kenny Burrell - 12-15-78 (32 Jazz)
  5. Kenny Burrell - Recapitulation (Chess) Excellent 2-LP overview of Burrell's Argo / Cadet sides, recorded between 1959 and 1967.
  6. Earlier this afternoon (prompted by Brad's recent post): So good.
  7. James Moody - Moods (Up Front) Reissue of an LP originally released as Running the Gamut (Scepter, 1965); with Thad Jones (tr), Patti Bown (p), Reggie Workman (b), Tootie Heath (d), and Marie Volpee (vo).
  8. Kai Winding & J.J. Johnson - The Great Kai & J.J. (Impulse)
  9. Junior Cook - Pressure Cooker (Affinity)
  10. Gil Fuller, James Moody & the Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra - Night Flight (Pacific Jazz)
  11. Cal Tjader with Strings: Last Night When We Were Young (Fantasy, 1975) Earlier tonight: James Moody - Moody's Mood (Chess)
  12. A great band and a superb record -- one of Farmer's very best, IMO.
  13. More Elvin: Elvin Jones - Coalition (Blue Note, 1970)
  14. Elvin Jones - Time Capsule (Vanguard) Jones featured a bevy of saxophone heavies on most of his albums in the Seventies. This one includes Frank Foster, George Coleman, Frank Wess, and fellow Vanguard label-mate Bunky Green.
  15. Frank Foster - Leo Rising (Arabesque)
  16. Harry "Sweets" Edison - Just Friends (Black & Blue) Sweets and Jaws always sound good together.
  17. Roy Eldridge & Dizzy Gillespie - Roy and Diz (Verve, 1954) with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown & Louie Bellson
  18. No electric piano on this one. Lots of heavy bari-playing tho'!
  19. When I contacted the seller and complained about the condition of the LPs, he immediately offered to refund two-thirds of the price I'd originally paid. So I decided to keep the album rather than return it. I guess he didn't want to bother with returns process either. Oh well. I'm fine with the mediocre-condition vinyl at the lower price.
  20. That may be so. I'd be disappointed if Jones always played electric piano. But, since he didn't, I don't mind hearing it occasionally. Just my take, of course!
