  1. The Lydian SQ plays this music beautifully.
  2. Another perspective. I love the Pullen - Adams - Walrath band. I think Changes I & Changes II are WAY UP THERE in the Mingus firmament.
  3. Years ago, I heard this version of Flos Campi on the radio. I remember thinking, "Whoa! What's that?!?!?" I bought the CD shortly afterwards. This recording is what drew me into Vaughan Williams' world.
  4. More 1970s jazz from Scandinavia: Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen / Kenneth Knudsen - Pictures (SteepleChase) Another NHØP duo gem.
  5. I love that record! FIVE stars!
  6. Ketil Bjørnstad ‎- Finnes du noensteds ikveld (Philips Norway) with Knut Riisnæs, Arild Andersen and Pål Thowsen
  7. Gabriel Fauré - 13 Barcarolles (Complete) / Jean-Philippe Collard (EMI / Pathé-Marconi) First spin of a new-to-me LP; also a first venture into Fauré's solo piano music. . . . Exquisite!
  8. Vaughan Williams - A London Symphony (No. 2) / Barbirolli, Hallé Orchestra (Vanguard Classics) Originally released on Pye Records in the U.K., this LP is the first of Barbirolli's two recordings of this work. Glorious John indeed.
  9. Tommy Flanagan & Kenny Barron - Together (Denon)
  10. Disc 2 Up next: EDIT: The Gifted Ones is such a great record! And nobody talks about it. Why??? This is a subtle masterpiece of blues and swing, people! Neglect it at your peril!!!
  11. I love all the Blakey records with Curtis Fuller. He really brought something extra to the band. Another GOOD one. I need to pull that off the shelf and give it a spin!
  12. Back to Ralph Vaughan Williams. Now listening to his Fourth Symphony -- as performed by Boult & the New Philharmonia Orchestra: Picked up this LP in a local shop today for two bucks. Now, I need to find Boult's recording of RVW's Sea Symphony (No. 1), and I'll have his complete EMI/Angel cycle on vinyl.
  13. Fantastic video. I'd only seen that for the first time a few months ago.
  14. Wasn't aware that he had written an autobiography. Thanks for the heads-up on that, sgcim. He certainly led an interesting life! Was there anyone who moved so fluidly and convincingly between different musical worlds?!?!?
