  1. Ralph Sutton - Alligator Crawl (Solo Art) Recorded 1975/76
  2. Mal Waldron - In Retrospect (Four Star) Originally released on Baybridge; with Akira Miyazawa (ts, fl); Isao Suzuki (b); and Hironobu Fujisawa (d)
  3. Duke Jordan - Flight to Denmark (SteepleChase)
  4. More Groove Holmes:
  5. Those two Von Freeman discs are OUTSTANDING.
  6. Superb late-in-the-game Ben Webster, recorded just a few months before he passed.
  7. Kenny Drew - Home Is Where the Soul Is (Xanadu/Elemental)
  8. Pat Martino - The Maker (Evidence) with Jim Ridl (p), Marc Johnson (b), and Joe Bonadio (d)
  9. Tete Montoliu - Songs for Love (Enja) and Woody Herman - The Raven Speaks (Fantasy/OJC)
  10. Duets from 1976.
  11. More music by The Mighty Burner: Charlie Earland - Infant Eyes (Muse, 1979) Compared to the wild and ambitious Leaving This Planet, Infant Eyes is a right-down-the-middle soul-jazz date. Nothing wrong with that, of course. They're just very different.
  12. Really enjoying this today. The cover on the CD reissue (below) is less garish, but I prefer the original cover art with its homemade, of-the-time look.
  13. I haven't heard Shippin' Out. I'll have to look for that one. Thanks for the heads-up.
  14. Richard "Groove" Holmes - Onsaya Joy (Flying Dutchman, 1975) After years of listening to this on YT (the used vinyl was expensive!), I ordered the Japanese Solid CD reissue. Holmes is probably my favorite organist -- and this record is fantastic, one of his best, IMHO.
  15. Gents - What do you think of the music? Looks fascinating.
  16. Dave McKenna - Giant Strides (Concord) Solo piano
  17. Jim, you hipped me to that record a while ago when I was going on-and-on about the Marsh/Konitz recordings on Storyville. NP: Philly Joe Jones / Dameronia featuring Johnny Griffin - Look Stop Listen (Uptown) Helluva lineup on this one: Drums – Philly Joe Jones Alto Saxophone, Flute – Frank Wess Tenor Saxophone – Johnny Griffin (on half the cuts) Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Charles Davis Baritone Saxophone – Cecil Payne Trumpet – Don Sickler, Virgil Jones Trombone – Benny Powell Piano – Walter Davis, Jr. Bass – Larry Ridley
  18. Art Pepper - Artworks (Galaxy) with George Cables, Charlie Haden & Billy Higgins This LP consists of extra cuts from the John Snyder-produced sessions that yielded So in Love.
