  1. I just realized the source of our confusion. The Browns drafted NICK Chubb. As a University of Georgia grad and Bulldog fan, Nick is who I think of when people say "Chubb." Nick's cousin went to the Broncos.
  2. I'm confused, Scott. The Browns did draft Chubb. Or does the "they" not refer to the Browns?
  3. More live Sonny, twenty years after A Night at the Village Vanguard: Don't Stop the Carnival (Milestone) What do you think of this record, soulpope? I've heard most of Waldron's output from the 70s -- but not this LP.
  4. You gents prompted me to cue up this up too. I can live with less-than-stellar sonics when the music is this good.
  5. Eddie Harris - Live at Newport (Atlantic)
  6. More Eddie Harris: Some of this is strangely compelling and some of it's just strange.
  7. Eddie Harris - Instant Death (Atlantic)
  8. David Liebman Group - Blues All Ways (OmniTone)
  9. Shirley Scott - Superstition (Cadet) Eddie Harris & Les McCann - Second Movement (Atlantic)
  10. Duke Ellington - The Feeling of Jazz (Black Lion) 1962 recordings from the stockpile.
  11. Jimmy McGriff & Groove Holmes - Giants of the Organ Come Together (Groove Merchant)
  12. Clare Fischer Orchestra featuring Jerry Coker - Extension (Discovery; originally released on Pacific Jazz) I bet that sounds great. I need to track down that LP. I think that's one of KB's very best records.
  13. Sonny Rollins Quartet - Tenor Madness (Prestige/OJC)
  14. Now listening to this CD (again): Richard "Groove" Holmes - Comin' on Home (Blue Note) Earlier: Ben Webster - Live at the Haarlemse Jazzclub (Limetree) Pure gold. IMHO, Al Cohn was at his very best while he was making records for Xanadu in the latter half of the Seventies.
  15. Sonny Rollins - Sonny, Please (Doxy/Emarcy) Hard to believe that this came out more than ten years ago.
  16. Randy Weston & Melba Liston - Volcano Blues (Gitanes/Universal) with an excellent band that includes Teddy Edwards, Hamiet Bluiett, Wallace Roney, Benny Powell, Ted Dunbar, Charlie Persip, et al
  17. I'm re-reading Donald Maggin's biography of Dizzy Gillespie.
  18. McCoy Tyner - Fly with the Wind (Milestone) with Ron Carter, Billy Cobham, and a host of others (including strings)
