Hannibal - African Portraits (Teldec) with Daniel Barenboim, Chicago SO, the Morgan State University Choir, Kennedy-King College Community Chorus, et al I'm just giving this a first listen. The former "Hannibal" Marvin Peterson [now Hannibal Lokumbe] takes on some of the same themes that John Carter explored in his superb Roots and Folklore series. However, unlike Carter's, this music is cast using a full symphony orchestra as well as vocal soloists and choruses.

David Liebman / Richie Beirach - Forgotten Fantasies (A&M Horizon) An unrecognized masterpiece, imho.
