  1. Horace Parlan Quintet - Frank-ly Speaking (SteepleChase) This record is relatively new to me, but it's quickly become a favorite. Strozier's alto and Foster's tenor sound great together, and the hot rhythm section keeps the fires burning. Amen to that! BTW: Thanks for the heads-up on this particular recording. I wasn't aware of it. Looks like one I should check out.
  2. Matt Wilson's Arts & Crafts - The Scenic Route (Palmetto) Franco Ambrosetti - Wings (Enja)
  3. Another newly-arrived disc : Enrico Pieranunzi Trio - New Lands (Timeless) with Marc Johnson & Joey Baron
  4. Good stuff! I just got a package from CD Japan, and this was one of the discs in the box: David Friedman - Futures Passed (Enja / Solid)
  5. Terell Stafford - This Side of Strayhorn (MaxJazz)
  6. Such a wonderful record.
  7. Gordon Beck - Sunbird (JMS) with Allan Holdsworth -- R.I.P. and Jean-François Jenny-Clark & Aldo Romano
  8. What do you think of that Terry Gibbs record, Tom?
  9. Thelonious Monk - Criss-Cross (Columbia)
  10. Thelonious Monk - Live at the Jazz Workshop: Complete (Sony)
  11. Andrew Hill - Live at Montreux (Arista Freedom)
  12. Thanks for sharing those reviews, Larry. Great writing -- and right on the money!
  13. Al Cohn - No Problem (Xanadu) with Barry Harris, Steve Gilmore and Walter Bolden To my ears, Al Cohn never sounded better than he did in the late 70s on the records he made for Xanadu. You'd be hard pressed to top Cohn's run of three Xanadu quartet records with Barry Harris and the duo record with Jimmy Rowles. That's one helluva purple patch.
  14. Conte Candoli & Frank Rosolino - Conversation (RCA) Ricky Ford - Loxodonta Africana (New World)
  15. I'm going to see them at the Ferst Center here in Atlanta on Saturday night (04/15). Looking forward to it!
  16. Yep. Those two guys can do ANYTHING.
  17. Arnett Cobb Is Back (Progressive)
  18. Beaver Harris 360 Degree Music Experience - Beautiful Africa (Soul Note)
  19. Ricky Ford - American-African Blues (Candid) With Jaki Byard, Milt Hinton, and Ben Riley. Ricky Ford's best record, imho.
  20. Martial Solal, Niels Henning Ørsted-Pedersen - Movability (MPS/PAUSA)
  21. We Three [Liebman, Swallow, Nussbaum] - Three for All (Challenge)
  22. Norman Connors - Dance of Magic (Cobblestone) Bill Evans - At the Montreux Jazz Festival (Verve)
  23. Quest - S/T (Palo Alto LP, 1983) The first Quest record, originally released on the Japanese Trio label in '82.
  24. Quincy Jones & His Orchestra - The Quintessence (Impulse)
