  1. Now spinning this vinyl: Earl Hines - A Monday Date: 1928 (Milestone) On the way home from work: Stephane Grappelli & Martial Solal - Happy Reunion (Owl) Two of my all-time favorite pianists.
  2. John Stetch - Ukrainianism (Justin Time)
  3. Brahms: Piano works / Peter Rösel (Edel Classics) Disc 3: Piano Sonata No. 3; Variations on a Theme by Schumann; Four Pieces for Piano, Op. 119 Perfectly balanced Brahms. In this repertoire, I think Rösel is unsurpassed.
  4. McCoy Tyner - Extensions (National Geographic... Ooops. Blue Note )
  5. James P. Johnson - Giants of Jazz (Time Life) A few years ago, I digitized the music in this 3-LP set so I could listen at work & in the car. I'd love to upgrade to the Mosaic set at some point. Terrific!
  6. More Texier: Henri Texier - Varech (Disques JMS) Through over-dubbing, Texier plays ALL of the instruments on this LP: double bass, electric bass, oud, flute, bombarde, and percussion. This music very much anticipates Texier's later, "world music"-influenced recordings for Label Bleu.
  7. HOORAY! I'll definitely be ordering the JPJ set when it's available again. Thanks for sharing that news, J.A.W.!
  8. Henri Texier - A Cordes et à Cris (Disques JMS) Mostly Texier solo with occasional contributions from Gordon Beck, Aldo Romano, Didier Lockwood & Jean-Charles Capon
  9. Duke Ellington - The Private Collection: Volume Seven, Studio Sessions, 1957 & 1962 (Atlantic/Saja) Tons of great soloing from Paul Gonsalves here -- as well as on many of the other "Private Collection" volumes.
  10. Agreed. If I were to choose just one Pharoah CD for my desert island, it would be that two-fer.
  11. Art Pepper - Art Lives (Galaxy) The 2nd of 3 LPs from Pepper's '81 engagement at the Maiden Voyage club in L.A. Claude Hopkins - Crazy Fingers (Chiaroscuro)
  12. Michael Garrick - Troppo (Argo / Vocalion) Uncategorizable and wonderfully expressive music.
  13. Kenny Werner - Beat Degeneration (Sunnyside) with Johannes Wiedenmueller & Ari Hoenig I love this band, this record.
  14. Mary Lou Williams - At Rick's Café Americain (Storyville)
  15. Last night: John Lewis - Afternoon in Paris (Dreyfus) | Ruby Braff & Ellis Larkins - Reunion (Chiaroscuro) This morning: Frank Foster - Swing! (Challenge)
  16. Found some fun, inexpensive LPs: - John Coates, Jr. - In The Open Space (Omnisound) - Al Haig - Piano Interpretations (Seabreeze) - Bill Hardman - Home (Muse) - Andrew Hill - From California with Love (Artists House) - Didier Lockwood - Out of the Blue (Gramavision) - James Moody & Al Cohn - Too Heavy for Words (PAUSA) - Jack Walrath - Wholly Trinity (Muse)
  17. Michał Urbaniak, Tomasz Stańko, a.o. - We'll Remember Komeda (MPS) And this again: Johnny Hodges with Leon Thomas & Oliver Nelson - 3 Shades of Blue (Flying Dutchman)
  18. Dizzy Gillespie's Big 4 (Pablo)
  19. Thanks for the heads-up, Larry. I'll keep an eye out for it. I've been listening to this AGAIN:
  20. Andy LaVerne Trio - Another World (SteepleChase) I dig this one.
  21. Duke Ellington & His Orchestra - "Harlem" (Pablo) Recorded live in Sweden in 1964.
  22. Doc Cheatham - Hey Doc! (Black & Blue)
  23. Johnny Hodges was superlative right up to the end.
  24. Prompted by a Louis Sclavis thread: Romano, Sclavis, Texier - Carnet de routes (Label Bleu)
  25. Dave Liebman & Richie Beirach - Balladscapes (Intuition) Lovely.
