  1. YES !!! I have a CD that pairs Under Fire with Bolivia. TREMENDOUS music. Gato's run of albums for Impulse is damn impressive--but I think his Flying Dutchman records hit me even harder. I think it has something to do with those amazing bands.
  2. From Airto Moreira to Gato Barbieri, one magnificent South American musician to another: This set compiles and expands Gato's first two LPs for Impulse: - Chapter 1: Latin America - Chapter 2: Hasta Siempre
  3. Claude Hopkins' Soliloquy -- included in that set -- is one of my desert-island discs!!!!
  4. More Thelonious: Thanks for the heads-up on this album, @jazzbo. I'm a big fan of Irene Kral's singing, and I had no idea that this existed!
  5. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
  6. This again: Two-tenor combos are fun. I like how they can flex between sounding like any other small-group unit, while at other times making sounds that approximate a big band in miniature.
  7. After enjoying Florence's "Concerts by the Sea" LP so much, I'm adding "Westlake" to my to-get list. Thanks, @jazzcorner.
  8. Shirley Scott - Lean on Me (Cadet, 1972) with George Coleman (ts), Danny Turner (as, fl), Roland Prince (g), and Idris Muhammad (d)
  9. Next up: Mundell Lowe - Guitar Player (Dobre, 1977) with Monty Budwig (b) and Nick Ceroli (d)
  10. This album keeps making its way back to my turntable: Bob Florence Big Band - Live at Concerts By The Sea (Trend, 1980) It's a grower.
  11. Back to this Herbie Nichols LP:
  12. Yup. Good stuff.
  13. Real Gone CD reissue
  14. Interesting. Thx for sharing.
  15. Unlike the first Sphere LP, this second album features compositions by the band members. Yes! And this one too (from Umbria Jazz in '86): Pumpkin's Delight (Red)
  16. Nope. It's bassist Marc Johnson.
  17. Next up: Sphere - Flight Path (Elektra Musician, 1983) Such lovely music. Can't say enough about Buster Williams.
