Steely Dan was my favorite band right before I went to college in 1978. Maybe I should go out and get their cds again. I bet I'll still like em... "Royal Scam" and "Aja" were definitely my favorites back then.

The R&B singer, Donnie Hathaway committed suicide by jumping from a window in a highrise... Woody Shaw fell in front of a train, but he was not trying to kill himself. I think he was in a catatonic state caused by diabetes and he lost his balance. Anyone know for sure?

Actually Dusty (bastards) has stocked three new Vick releases of which "Caribbean Suite"is one. "Straight Up" and "Watch What Happens" are the other two. Anyone heard of any of these?

Crap, I forgot! An Iranian fellow jumped to his death from the fifth floor of my apartment building in Bangkok when I was there. I didn't see it, but I saw some of the blood afterwards when I could bear to look in that direction. Left a family behind too. Funny how I had pushed that from my memory...

I can't believe anyone would make a comeback comment like that about Ms. McCorkle. I wasn't trying to be funny, Rainy. Although the smilie does add some humor. Are we sure this was a result of a suicide? That was the point I was trying to make.

I suspect that the man committing suicide feels he leaves his fate in God's hands. If he survives then he undergoes a lifechanging event and he tries to rebuild his life. If he dies, then it was the right thing to do. If he kills another human being on the way down, then God willed it. Or perhaps the decision as to whether to jump or not is all-consuming and pedestrians aren't considered at all. Just theories of course...

I'd certainly search for some humour out of the incident. Sounds damned traumatic and I'd prefer to be distracted or detached if a falling body just missed me by a few feet. They say that people feel a tremendous calm when falling from great heights. This person obviously did not, since he was screaming. Hmmm....
