Not necessarily, Paul. I kept mine and sold them at one go. The shop that bought them said the conditions of the magazines took away most of the value. Of course, he was probably exaggerating. Nevertheless, I only got $200 for a ton of magazines. Those stores expected you to keep the magazines hermetically sealed in dry ice or something. -

Forgot about them. They were great! -
Reaaalllly crappy song! I had it burned into my ears after hearing it at malls or coffeeshops. Yech!

Tell you what, Moose, I'll be able to answer this for you once I view all the episodes. Should be getting them by Wednesday or Thursday. I might be able to catch a few episodes on Thursday but that's it as I'm leaving for Pittsburgh for a chess tournament on Friday and will be spending the weekend there. Rotten time to be receiving these fascinating DVDs... Another thing about the Twilight Zone was the quality of the actors. Many actors such as Robert Redford appeared before they became famous. Jack Klugman was in several as well as William Shatner and Ida Lupino. I'm sure there were many more. When Serling started the series, he had already been recognized as a first class television writer. He did have some success with "Requiem for a Heavyweight."
-
Well stated, Moose. You and I are one on this. I think Serling put his heart and soul into this series. He wrote these shows during his creative prime and he hired terrific writers to pen some of the episodes. There's one story about a Japanese-American and American war vet reliving the horrors of Saipan in the man's attic. Won't spoil the end for you guys, but the Japanese landscaper reads the inscription of the souvenir samurai sword the American war vet had taken from the Japanese soldier he killed, and reads: "this sword will avenge thy death..." Cool stuff! The Japanese actor was the same who played the role of Mr. Sulu on Star Trek. Brilliantly acted.

I loved Marvel comic books when I was a kid. Recently saw a bound volume of older issues I used to read. The writing was trite! I guess I've moved on... Don't know if I had any favorites. I really liked the Thing, who was one of the members of the Fantastic Four. He was so human. -
JRVG lovers have come back and narrowed the gap considerably. Looks like this poll isn't going to provide any definitive answers as to which format is better.

I hate to say it this way, because it sounds so stupid, but... WORD!! -
One of the most memorable episodes for me is where this guy somehow is able to go back in time and coexists with himself as a kid in a playground. The kid is busy having fun while the man meanders around in a melancholy mood; he tries to talk to the kid (himself) and counsel that "these are the best years of your life." Don't blow them, or some such thought. The kid doesn't pay him too much mind and is too busy enjoying himself. Forgot how it ended. Brilliant concept!

Do you want to trade the same titles? I can offer Grant Green, "Sunday Mornin" TOCJ for its JRVG equivalent (as long as its got that extra track on it.) Would also trade it for your Lou Donaldson, "Wailing with Lou" And you guys thought I started this thread with the idea of learning stuff about the two formats...well, there's some of that, but trading is also what it's about!
-
JRVGs are getting their butts wumped! Everyone likes TOCJs! (Maybe I can work out some trades here to let go some of my TOCJs...) Where are the JRVG fans?
-
I remember a couple people on this board (Weizy was one of them) who wanted to trade TOCJs for JRVGs or JRVGs for TOCJs. I cannot recall which sets they wanted to trade. Can you remind us please?
-
I recently picked up a complete DVD set of Twilight Zone television shows. There are 156 episodes in all. Rod Serling was a story-telling genius and many of these episodes strike me as morality plays. I haven't got my set yet, but I do recall many of the episodes. Tell us about some of your favorite episodes...
-
So far we've got a tie.
-
For the record, I decided not to vote at all. I've never had the opportunity to compare them side by side. I've never owned a JRVG and TOCJ of the same cd.
-
so which do you prefer, Weizy? You're probably one of the experts on this. Waiting for Grey's comments too, though he has already indicated to me that it differs case by case.
-
One thing is for sure: I don't like those mini-lp style jackets. They're cute and all but that cd slides out whether you plan to listen to it or not! (sounds like a part of the male anatomy! ) Then they've got that lp facsimile at the back of jacket which lists the songs on the cd. You discover that the cd has a couple of extra tracks and you have to peer at the inside notes to get the song listings. I've been thinking about moving the JRVG discs to hard cd cases whenever I listen to them. Hurts aesthetically, but it's better than having the cd roll on to the floor when I pick up the jacket.
-
I haven't voted yet; I'll wait awhile to see what others say first. Damn, I should have included a "I Don't Know" choice.
-
This ought to be interesting. I know that many people hate those mini-lp style cases of the JRVGs, but the TOCJs often miss out on extra tracks. Which sound better? Let's have your thoughts...

Do you play jazz or R&B/Blues at those casinos, Jim? I know when my mother goes to casinos, her full concentration is on the slots. I don't go to casinos myself. (I know too many other ways to get rid of my money)

Board is starting to slow down. That's a good sign!

Happy Birthday to everyone!!! I'm getting drunk...see other thread.
