I had a better seat for the PNC show. I wouldn't say that Bill had too much to do on those Union shows. ...
  2. nothin' 'round here. I hope you're felling better FFA. .

NJ: One was at Byrne Arena in the Round and the other was at the Garden State Arts Center (now PNC). Why?

  6. some things I've been enjoying lately... Anders Miolin - Claude Debussy, arranged for 10 stringed guitar This really knocks my socks off, I've been getting into Debussy's piano music - here it is transcribed on to the guitar. I'd like to check out his Satie & Ravel transcriptions. Paul Galbraith - French Impressions, Debussy/Ravel On eight string guitar. I'd like to listen to his performances of Bach's Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin and Lute Suites. I'm also curious about Bach: Four Suites for Orchestra Arranged for Guitar Quartet that I'm seeing on Amazon. John Williams Plays Bach - The Four Lute Suites on Guitar I wanted a copy, this was cheap and apparently a classic recording.

times I heard him perform live: Once with the unknown John Clark replacing Allan Holdsworth in the Bill Bruford Group. Six times with King Crimson in the '80s. Once with King Crimson in the '90s. Once with David Torn's Cloud About Mercury band. Once with Bruford Levin Upper Extremities. Twice on the Yes Union tour. Once with Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe. and once at Mannys, NYC...he was doing some kind of electronic drum workshop while I was downstairs discussing guitar business.

Bill Bruford's Earthworks. I loved this band - even saw them perform twice with the original line up. http://www.billbruford.com/eworks/bio.html http://billbruford.com/
  9. Even just a token amount makes the gig a bit more respectable. I'll be 50 in a few months and I have to play with more mature people, don't have time for that shit. ...
  10. You might try paying them. ...
  11. Me too when I heard him with P/O 10 or 15 years ago, here in NJ.

    Bill Evans

    Welcome...keep comin'.
  13. I meant to say 72 steps in an octave rather than "72 notes." OK. ...
  14. You don't play all 72 notes in each scale for a start. 1200 cents in an octave. 1200 / 72 = 16.666666 16.666666 * 3 = 49.999999 cents -> 1/4 quarter tones. 16.666666 * 2 = 33.333332 ----> 1/6th tones. That brings 72tet near Just Intonation intervals. I don't know enough about woodwinds to comment on how to get microtones out of them.
  15. I'm puzzled by the big guy comment too.

    Happy Birthday Sonny Sharrock (August 27, 1940 – May 26, 1994). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Sharrock
  19. Happy Birthday Alice!
  20. Yeah, that's where he's coming from. When the cash situation gets better, I'll pick up some more albums by him. Right now, my collection is back at my place and I'll probably grab other CDs next time I stop by there.
  21. That's how I feel...I never really connected with his music, but I keep trying. As as microtonalist, he's an original...using 72 tone equal temperament to play jazz - that's real unique. ...

    Wayne Shorter

Happy Birthday (+1 day) to Wayne! I heard him once on a triple bill with Chick Corea's Electrik Band and someone else on the Pier in NYC in the mid-80's. I think I'd enjoy his current band a lot more now.
  24. RIP. We played on the same American Festival of Microtonal Music in NYC, Nov. 2000. .
