  2. False alarm.
  3. deadnet down? new platform installation? DaP XX announcement pending? should I stop posing questions that can't be answered? yes.
  4. I s'pose this thread exercises subject matter jurisdiction here... http://www.jambase.com/article/earliest-studio-recordings-jerry-garcia-released-first-time The relentless onslaught against a zero-balance VISA, not to mention shelf space, continues. With Floyd Early Years, Dylan 66, DaP20, REM OOT Anniversary, and now an HVD release, November is shaping up as my own personal "Postal Service Celebration" month...that magnificent sample track puts me to mind of an all-time fave release, the Complete Boarding House Tapes. Roots, Jerry, roots! Hooray!

    Bob Dylan corner

Props mj! Pre-ordered a couple minutes ago. Ridiculous. Europe 72, Dylan 66, Floyd Early Years...life is spectacularly good, if a bit costly at the moment...really curious about SQ of the AUDs; but at this price, such concern is not prohibitive. wow./K
  8. Gold star delivery day. yay.
  9. Somewhere along the line, I was tabbed by the attending coterie to rent and captain the USS Unwieldy - the M1 RVAbrams behemoth (cringeworthy mixed military nomenclature) that will serve as kitchen, bedroom, taxi, toilet, and general flophouse for the festival. After a couple test drives, I've selected a smashing luxury model whose only apparent liability is the requirement for a petrol station every 37.2 miles. Anyway, I'll be taking off Tuesday while heading West along the compass - note this does not progress ME toward the ultimate geographic objective - for a pick-up in Louisville before returning East to Cincinnati and finally Charleston before a southeastern adjustment to Arrington. Quick turn-around to Denver for Phish for a smashing Holiday (NOT in an RV!). Red Bull would be an apropos sponsor to this junket! I often wear a red or green Deadhook (after the site) tshirt w/ my first name across the back to facilitate recognition by members on GoGD boards...so, if you suspect it's me, introduce yourself!/peace, K
  10. Making a Greeley-esque pilgrimage from mountain-shadowed eastern coal fields to that beacon of bluegrass enlightenment, Lou-u-vuhl, for to see Forecastle...should be a sun-groping, small batch drinking, stupendous good time on the Waterfront!/ peace,K http://forecastlefest.com/?_ga=1.139835123.1318383424.1468513963
  11. A fine 4+ star show from early 70; the stretch from GL to HtH is remarkable, with a preciouis DS that's elegantly straddling a stark transition period. http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/dave-s-picks-volume-19-honolulu-civic-auditorium-hi-12370

  16. A short respite of fiscal responsibility met its timely end courtesy of a neglected VISA that refused to yield the right of way.
  17. I suppose one could hope...however, little grasshopper also dreams that Master Po might step out of the 1950s and away from a now-marginal genre associated with easy listening background music, a la Kenny G and Norah Jones, while joining her in a traveling celebration of vibrant music's new standard bearer on his Tats-Across-America Tour! So, in case miracles do come true (though not for Aston Villa this morning (EST, that is)), I leave you the key to the kingdom: http://www.justinbiebertour2016.org/ I have a nagging feeling that this carriage morphed into a pumpkin sometime around midnight....sooo, "Now back to your regularly scheduled programming..." (at least for the next 364-odd days)...p/k
  18. 68-74 is artistically sterile. To begin with, the play in 68-69 is largely a drug-addled, uninspired, morass that accurately typifies the close of a culturally insignificant decade. Still, even the much-derided Feb-Mar 69 Fillmore run - as well as the resulting, and roundly criticized, dismal "Live/Dead" - is a veritable wonder compared to the commercially contrived acoustic foray of 70. Not surprising though, given the corrupting influence of CSN's woefully disharmonious vocalizing while loitering about Mickey's ranch just prior. Then, 71, like 73, is a mere footnote in the band's history, and there's been some mention of a largely unforgettable European tour somewhere in between, which, given the quality of play at the time, might've been reasonably perceived by our Western allies as an act of cultural warfare. Too bad the boys didn't give greater consideration to the bohemian allure of becoming expats, because by 74 they'd completely lost their bearings, becoming a second-rate lounge act performing a brand of jazz-fusion suitable only for entertaining mutants and farm animals. As president of Organissimo's chapter of the Steve Reynolds' fan club - and a fellow Head who orients her musical compass to true north based on your recommendations - I hold out hope that the preceding post is just a poorly conceived April Fool's joke. Incidentally, your time would be much better spent exploring the verdant soundscapes of 83-84./peace, K
  19. Enhancement utilizing a sophisticated forensic blur reduction algorithm clearly reveals the photo as a still-shot from the Patterson video. It's long been rumoured that John Denver, while in state of altered Rocky Mountain consciousness, produced a limited-run LP to salute to the men in uniform who selflessly serve to perpetuate this time-honored mythology./p,k
  20. "Vacuuming up all RT Bonus Discs" was just one of the 4,679 immediate uses I had tabbed for last week's 1.5bn Powerball windfall. Right behind purchasing Martinique and contracting Kipnis to install an Outer Limits system in the Listening/Viewing Room of my Caribbean Palace./p,k
  21. In a nod to the thread title, it's a succinct editorial on both the breadth and brilliance of the GD's live performance catalogue that I was not aware of this particular incarnation until prompted by poster over on the Ark earlier this p.m., which, at 42+ minutes covers diverse terrain, but with an artistic cogency that invites attentive listening throughout: http://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1973/12/6/dark-star peace, K
  22. The Orpheum run and '76 go together like PB&J and BLT, not to mention Fear, Loathing & American Politics (apologies to Hunter); thus, DaP 18's selection of the 2nd best show from the Big O tetralogy - 7/17 - is an inherently handicapped winner. Throw in a modest first set from the previous night as filler as well as the accompanying Monster 2nd stanza on the bonus disc and Dave's assembled a lovely, near-complete, venue-centric, two-fer release from a unique transition year that's really something of an orphaned child among conventionally denominated Dead eras. WOOT!, I say./peace, K DL's latest video chat on the matter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJFFl4s1nyY
  23. Sacramental Pooh & The Greek Honestly, take this, RT2.2 (arguably THE greatest GOGD show of 2300+) in addition to DiP 22, through which - though only covering 6 months of a 30 year career - you've arguably assembled some of the best music played by a band whose history otherwise spanned 6 presidents! Phil is not only playing rhythm bass, but catalystic Lead on GMLSC, though he defers to Jerry's bodaciously nimble, and seemingly inexhaustible, fretwork throughout the balance; and, though all of Art is subjective, I'd be hard pressed to understand how any aficionado of the Blues, Jazz, or simply high-octane RocknRoll wouldn't just swoon at cross-over genius of this magnitude!/peace, K Edit: If indeed you're enjoying The Box, I'll look forward to future editorials!
