The new "Pay-It-Forward" Music Giveaway Thread!!!
JSngry replied to Parkertown's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Oh, Lkjaw? Sure, yes, please, if it's not too late? How does this work, you send this out and the recipient offers something else? -
Outstanding singing, and non-cookie-cutter charts from Billy Way. Plus, one hellagood band playing them.

2017 MLB Facts, Lies, Propaganda, Opinions, & Pictures

Why were the Reds wearing that green? -
Didn't see this one coming....Hilary Hahn moved Brenda so deeply that when intermission came, she said said she had to leave, that she had never heard anything so beautiful in her life and she needed some time to digest/absorb/recover, she had tears on her face and was actually kind of quivering. Never, ever has she had a response like that to any music. So, we left at intermission. Far be it for me to question that kind of response to music.

I don't know that that kind of efficiency would be universally admired! That's a good record.

Hey Kids, Have You Heard The News? MOSAIC's IN TROUBLE!!!
JSngry replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'd recommend to almost anybody. Your ideal rate of consumption might be something to consider before diving in for binge-listening, but, yeah, it's all very good in whatever size dose works best and it will be good to have when you're in the mood for it. -
The lawsuit states that the Monk estate had given verbal permission to North Coast to use Thelonious Monk's image in the sale of the beer in exchange for the brewery's agreement to donate some profits to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, a nonprofit jazz education program with locations in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. However, as the lawsuit states in an attached letter dated January 2016, Monk Jr. rescinded that permission upon realizing that the brewery was using Monk's likeness and name on brewery merchandise (which as of this writing is still on sale) and in signage during beer and jazz festivals. The estate's lawyer stated in the letter to North Coast's legal representation that permission to use Monk's image would only be reinstated if and when the brewery entered into a licensing agreement with the Monk Estate. "At no time prior to January 11, 2016 did either T.S. Monk or the Monk Estate authorize North Coast to utilize the THELONIOUS MONK name, image or likeness for the sale of merchandize such as cups, hats, hoodies, iron on patches, soap, t-shirts, tap handles, metal and neon signs, pins, playing cards, mouse pads, posters, and food products," the lawsuit reads. On the face of it, this seems like a legit beef, although, geez, "verbal permission",,,why, oh why? Harry Colomby is shitting in his grave right now.

Concord enters the 5 LPs box market
JSngry replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Ok, then, I was wondering... Actually, this is a good chance for Americans to pick up on Rita Reyes and Klaus Doldinger. Don't know how much, if any, of their Mercury output was made available over here. The Crusaders set covers some prime 70s material too, with no American equivalent that I can see. And OBTW, these sets are being offered through American Amazon, as imports: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=5+Original+Albums In no way could these be considered "boots", since the "legal" owners - there and here - are the ones releasing them. -
Hey Kids, Have You Heard The News? MOSAIC's IN TROUBLE!!!
JSngry replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Well, fuck it. Brenda's retiring in a week, Mosiac's running on fumes, so what the hell, I ordered the Armstrong Decca while I still can. Not going to be "revelatory" for me, I know most of the material well enough. But hey, fuck it. -

Concord enters the 5 LPs box market

Still trying to figure out the "Concord" link to these obviously legacy-Universal sets. -
That was the, this is now. I kinda like these guys, actually...they sound like they've had sex for fun, or are at least starting to! More of this, if we have to have more of this, at least let it be more like this. That's a pretty big if, but...

Pretty sure he had a pretty good life doing session work of all sorts, on that one Thad/Mel album, played on "The second race" iirc, not at all phased by all that gloriously goofy mess that Thad threw at him. A lesson in survival, in its own way, not a great solo, but then again, he didn't back down or away, he just played with the band. And he got paid for the night. Survival. Another kind of survival, this time on Encounter Records (a very small but most uber-coll output of a label) from the early 70s, produced by Lloyd Price: Because, Eddie Harris couldn't make all the Eddie Harris records, could he now! But I like that shit, because, yes, derivative, intentionally so, but insincer, phony, fake, whatever, etc? Not as I hear it, again, not phased, just play the gig, play with the band, get paid, living being made, fair enough, imo.

Concord sent me an email announcing their new Marilyn Manson release. No mention of Herb Ellis being on it, nor of Curtis Fuller.
