  1. Tonight's consolation prize for not being able to go to Austin for Henry (not that he's going to be there now...) http://www.nashersculpturecenter.org/engage/event?id=456 Soundings: New Music at the Nasher Jörg Widmann’s Complete Cycle of Five String Quartets Complete Cycle of Five String Quartets featuring the Minguet Quartett and soprano Claron McFadden. No idea what to expect, but I'm game. The Soundings series generally does right.
  2. It's just so....rigid! That's a turd song with turd production, all of which is the sole responsibility of the human involved. A live band doesn't make it any less of a turd of a song, although it might render it a more pliable turd for some ears. I love Stevie, but he, as a human, creates turds on occasion. It's what happens in life. Not all ladies (or showers) are golden.
  3. Not happy for this, but looking forward to a rescheduling, as logistics made going tonight impossible. I was bummed.

  10. That card reveals - quietly - that he got traded because they were going to have to build a new fence. That cost money, even then. And you know how tight Cal G (rhymes with algae) was.

  12. The cat turned into the dog, just (almost) as Wayne's tenor tuned into soprano on Miracle Of The Fishes. Don't think that that went unnoticed!
  13. I dunno man, George Crabtree! The canoe!
  14. Funny, it was the mono mix in the mono box that made me re-listen! I started with the American stereo (1970-ish?), the got the UK stereo in the late-70s just for the runoff on Side 2. I had gotten kind of jaded about it until being forced to confront it without the stereo-isms. Same thing with the white album, only I never really got jaded with that one. But the mono has shit that's just not there otherwise (I think), shit that you notice right off, if you know what I mean. People who want to do the head[phone-thing, check out Buffalo Springfield Again.

  20. Here's where John Benson Brooks went, quiet as it's been kept. I see that Mr. Ford has done his part to illuminate. Kudos!
  21. Yeah, I remember when US TV (on air and cable) would "fill in the spaces" with all kinds of short subjects, anything from random PSA films from the library to independent "artistic" short subjects. I do like Murdoch. It's a very good cast, imo,. I wonder sometimes if it's the time of life for me to start watching stuff like Murder she Wrote, or Matlock, but Murdoch seems a notch or two "sharper" that them. Maybe more in the leagues of Colombo or Rockford or McMillan & Wife, only with the twist of the whole turn-of-the-century thing thrown in to add that little twist.
